My son is getting married in July.
I was thinking of renting a photo booth for the reception.
What do you think? Fun? Dumb? Meh?
I have been to a couple weddings where they have these and I thought it was a lot of fun, but I am a dork like that.
Bride and Groom are fine with the idea but they think it costs a lot. (which it does) Do you think it is a worthy purchase?

I think they are fun. You may want to look into a DIY photo booth. My nephew and his wife did one of those. They took photos from a camera and had a printer on site that did the photo strips. They also had some props. It's easy enough to NOT do it if you think it's dorky. ETA: If you search on Pinterest DIY photobooth, there are some ideas.

They're no longer in vogue here but they can be fun with right crowd. I'd let the bride and groom make the call.

I think they are awesome! My son was in a wedding and they had a very high end photo booth that everyone loved. The pictures it took were very clear and we ended up using one that was goofy for one of our Christmas card photos. I say go for it! ETA: I think the groom's mom told me the company gave the couple a photo book with all the pictures as a keepsake.

I think they're adorable! You can go in them or not and that is the great beauty about them!

Ambivalent. I don't care if the bride and groom have one, but I won't be stopping in.

A few of the places that I have checked have quoted anywhere from $1,200.00 to $1,600.00 for 4 hours. That includes unlimited photographs, props, an attendant, delivery, set up, and return.
Some of the places offer instant upload to Instagram and Facebook and video messages for the bride and groom. I don't know if all that stuff is really necessary.

i'd never pop into one - i think the money could be better spent elsewhere
add that expense into the regular photography budget

We had a DIY photo booth of sorts at my dd's wedding. We had lots of props and I made a huge polaroid frame for guests to stand behind and take photos and added their wedding date and hashtag to the front of it. The people who used it seemed to love it!
ETA: Guests posted the pics on Instagram using the hashtag.

I think it really depends on your crowd. They've been done so much around here for graduations, I think most people are over them.

My friend's DD had one at her wedding a couple years ago and it was fun. They had a laptop with a webcam set up to take the photos. You would click the space bar and had about 30 seconds to get into position for the first photo, then it would take four photos in quick succession just like a real photo booth. The four small photos were printed on a portable photo printer like a Selphy. I would imagine you could also do it with an iPad and the Photobooth app too, and print wirelessly to a Selphy, like this: YouTube
My friend had a table set up with precut pages, stickers, small diecuts, adhesive, scissors and pens. Everyone chose their favorite photo to stick onto a small scrapbook page and they could write their name and their favorite marriage advice to the couple, and the pages were all compiled into a cute guestbook for the couple. I keep wanting to do this for one of DD's birthday parties but I always seem to run out of time to pull all the pieces together.

especially fun after a few cocktails ![:D]() that was my first thought too!! i work with real estate agents, lenders, etc and some of them know how to have fun. we have photo booths at christmas parties in the past and there are some fun snaps from those evenings. but i will say it depends on the crowd. my reaction is props are cliche but actually they seem to help loosen people up and have a bit more fun with it. i will go back to... depends on the crowd!

A few of the places that I have checked have quoted anywhere from $1,200.00 to $16,000.00 for 4 hours. That includes unlimited photographs, props, an attendant, delivery, set up, and return.
Some of the places offer instant upload to Instagram and Facebook and video messages for the bride and groom. I don't know if all that stuff is really necessary. To me, that is a LOT of money. At the one wedding where this was available, it was part of the photographers package. He used an assistant to take the pictures & there was a coin token that you gave to the assistant. My cousin, who was footing the bill & is kinda cheap, paid for this option, which was about $500.00. What I have learned in planning a wedding is to ask each person who is contributing $$ what their highest priority is.For my ddil & I, it was the flowers & the chocolate favours, her parents it was the food, for my ds it was the photos. I helped to pay for the flowers and for the favours. I made the chocolates. I used premium chocolate to make the chocolates. I also have an Accucut machine which I cut the cute boxes for the chocolates. The combo worked very well. Her parents & relatives gave the best food. Her family are farmers and the venue allowed them to provide the food, which was CFIA certified. This was also the 'wedding gift' to the couple from these relatives. We had the best roast beef and chicken breasts. Her parents had a huge (2 acre) garden which produced most of the fresh vegetables. The food was so good & fresh (August wedding). The couple paid for the photographer, the venue and incidentals. I gave them cash to use however they needed to pay for other things. I figured if they are mature enough to get married, they are mature enough to budget the money they have. Have fun!

We went to a wedding last year where there was a photo booth and it was a lot of fun - everyone loved it! Beware though of the types of photos that might be taken after everyone has had a few too many bevvies!!

Love them, I'm a huge photo fan though - We had one for DD's wedding 9 years ago and it was a huge hit! We still look at those pictures and have fond memories I bought all kind of props I think I paid $1200.00 for it = they set it up and and took it down, each person got an instant print out right then and at the end we received a CD of all the pictures.

I'm not a fan. And, I hate the pressure to participate, especially by tipsy/drunk people.

My daughter had one at her wedding 5 years ago. Everyone LOVED it. They had great props. Everyone got a strip of their photos with a frame for a favor. Money well spent!

I have only been to one wedding with a photo booth but I thought it was cute. There were really fun props and my husband I did take some silly and sweet pics. If the couple wants to have one, then why not? Who gives a fuck if it's trendy or dorky or whatever. Everything in the wedding is going to look totally dated in thirty years anyway no matter how "timeless" anyone thinks it is so my philosophy is have what you want at your wedding and tell anyone who doesn't like it they can go pound sand or stay the fuck home.

I don't just like this answer, I love it!! My husband and I went to a wedding where there was a photo booth and we thought it was fun. When we were dating we had pictures taken in a photo booth that was in a bar. We had had several drinks and lets just say the photos were um, fun. This was before cell phones. The photo booth at the wedding reminded us of that time.

The two wedding I went to in 2016 had them and I thought it was fun. Both I think kept a copy of the phot sheet and made a "scrapbook" for the newlyweds. One had you adhere the extra copy on black cardstock and had metallic sharpies that you could sign a note for the couple.

I think they're fun! As a guest that doesn't drink and isn't much into dancing I appreciate having another activity.
