"The Trump administration announced Friday that it will not follow former president Barack Obama's policy of voluntarily disclosing the names of most visitors to the White House complex, citing “grave national security risks and privacy concerns.” The announcement — from an administration that has faced pointed questions about its commitment to transparency — marks a significant shift from the Obama White House, which released the names of nearly 6 million visitors, including scores of lobbyists. Instead, the Trump administration said it would release information under far more limited circumstances: when Freedom of Information Act requests are filed for those visiting offices of the White House characterized under the law as separate agencies, such as the Office of Management and Budget.... Under the new policy, it will be up to the White House to decide whether to release the names of visitors coming to meet with the president, vice president and their senior staff, at least in the short term. Under a separate statute, much of that information can become public years after Trump leaves office." www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2017/04/14/trump-to-discontinue-obama-policy-of-voluntarily-releasing-white-house-visitor-logs/No blind trust. No tax returns. No visitor logs. It's almost like there's something to profit from and hide. Welcome to the oligarchy!

I think (like the tax returns) they've just been done by ethically moral people who recognize the responsibility they have toward the American public. Trump is the one who will make it so these things become law.

I don't really see the point - couldn't the next President just release that information anyway? Trump is busily over turning so many of Obama's orders, wouldn't the next President be able to do the same...so it won't necessarily stay a secret and if he does something dodgy, it will all come out in the future anyway.

Things that have always been tradition and prior candidates/presidents abided by because they were decent humans will be enshrined into law to avoid this kind of garbage in the future.

ETA and I hope the Next administration doesn't start at all the lowered bars of this admin. but has the integrity to raise them back where they belong at their start. or we'll take forever to get out of the damn swamp 45 has put us in while he claims to be draining it.

Whatever. I'm at the point of "who even cares" anymore after days of reading jibberish from his supporters online. "Trump is FRUGAL, this is FAKE NEWS" in response to posts about his travel costs. "Trump doesn't lie, that's you leftard reporters" in response to stories about the six campaign issues he's flip flopped on in the last 24 hours. And let's be real - we don't need to see the White House visitor logs to understand what a shitstorm of corruption, malfeasance, nepotism and incompetence we're dealing with. So let the little man keep his pathetic (and you know they are pathetic) visitor logs a secret. Until the next administration sees fit to release that info with a FOIA request. Little man can keep his humiliating secrets a secret for a very little while.

Here's the bad news - many of us are hoping the "next administration" will go back to more openness - tax returns, divestment, etc.
What if Trump has set a new lower bar and all we get from now on is secretive, profit-seeking, megalomaniacal billionaires running from all parties? He's shown that Americans are too uninformed and unthinking to care and as long as the electoral college is in place, why would we get anything better next time?

I believe anyone can file a FOIA request. I hope there is a movement to keep the administration busy answering a barrage of those now.
Just because he WANTS to keep visitors secret doesn't mean he can. This only means that reporters will have to work harder at uncovering who they are, using old-fashioned gum-shoe tactics.
As much as he likes to hate on the press, I believe Donald will be responsible for reviving an interest in journalism. I predict an increase in students entering that field, similar to what happened after Watergate.
Ironically, all this secrecy will probably end up being his undoing. Congress has already shown that it doesn't care about his conflicts of interest. So why cover up who he's meeting? But "secrecy" is what has the potential to turn it into a real scandal.
He won't keep this crap quiet forever. There is so much discord on his team, and his penchant for blaming others will not create long-term loyalty among his staff. There will be leaks and whistleblowers, and it will just look worse when it finally comes out.
So here is my conspiracy theory of the day..... Trump needs to meet with a doctor who specializes in treating dementia and doesn't want anyone to know. He can't go to the office because the press will follow and figure it out. If the doc makes a house call, it will be obvious that something is up if the doc's name appears on the visitor's log. Saying that the logs won't be released is a diversion tactic because everyone assumes it's a coverup for his business or Russian ties.

By not releasing the logs, Trump is going to save taxpayers a whopping $70K by 20-freaking-20! How terribly terribly noble!!!!!!!

(Ignore the fact that every freaking almost weekly trip to Mar A Lago is $2-3 MILLION.)
He's beyond laughable.
