In the Lost Layouts thread I mentioned that I came across a lot of cheap scrapbook paper that I'm going to end up bringing to school. I teach third grade so they will just love that stuff. With Mother's Day quickly approaching, it'd be super awesome if I could figure out a way to use it for a project/gift for mom. I was thinking about taking the kids outside to the statue of Mary (we are a Catholic school) and taking their picture. They could put the picture on the paper and write about their moms. My question is this. How would you feel getting something like that as a gift? What if you weren't a person who scrapbooks? Would you still want something like that?

If I wasn't a scrapbooker, I would prefer to have something smaller, like a card. It would make it easier for me to store it in whatever box or file I use to store the rest of my child's projects.
If you give them 12x12 paper, they could just fold the paper in half before gluing the photo on the front and the note paper inside.
I think it's a lovely project.

I think its a great idea. As a mom, I would love anything from my children- I have always enjoyed them bringing home mothers day presents from school. They are so precious to me. Way before I scrapbooked, I had a tote full of school things from my kids

I think it's great! I still have a box of those treasures and my kids are in their 30's.

I love the idea, but I would make the paper a standard frame size, or have the kids put it on a large card.

I really love the idea and a mother I would love the project and treasure from my son. I would echo what a couple others have said as far as the size. Letter size would be ideal and could be framed or safely tucked away in a standard folder/envelope for memorabilia sake.

I have seen paper flowers on straws and a card to go with them. That could be transferred into a scrapbook or flattened if the parent is a collector.

I see it as more of a thank you letter that's been embellished if that makes sense. A photo glued on paper with words to their moms. I would love it even if I didn't scrapbook.

Last year in kindergarten my kid's teacher had all of the kids make their moms a big card out of 11x17 construction paper folded in half. On the outside the kids each drew a picture of themself with their mom. On the inside the teacher had them glue in a preprinted fill in the blank questionnaire type thing that the kids filled in with stuff about their mom like, My mom's favorite thing to do is _____. Her favorite color is _______. I love it when my mom ________. I know my mom loves me because she ________. A whole page of stuff like that. It was so cute and funny and touching all at the same time. Made me cry! Would have been even better with a photo of the kid at the age they made it on there somewhere with their handprint and hand written name on the back.

I love your project idea, lilacgal. I am sure all the moms will love their gifts. I DO like the suggestion above, though to cut the pp to 8x10 so the moms can frame their photo.

Love the idea. Definitely love the idea of having it a bit smaller, so it is easier to display & store.
Your students' moms are going to love you!!
