This is something I've struggled with for a while --- when we travel fairly locally we want to fly non-stop -- but it is often hard to find non stop flights -- for example non stop flights between Oakland and Mexico are very hard to find -- is there a website where you can enter cities or countries and find out what days and times they fly non stop? I don't know why this is so hard!

You can use google flights and filter for non-stop flights. You'll widen your non-stop list significantly by driving to SFO.

Non-stop flights really only exist from or to a "hub" airport for that particular airline. So for example, we have two airports here - one is a hub for United and one for Southwest. Those are the only airlines for which I can get nonstop flights. If I fly Delta or something else I'll always have to connect through one of their hubs, even though I'm coming from a major city.
Exception: commuter flights from one small city to another. But if you're going cross-country or to another country, you'll have to get to a "hub" airport to get a nonstop flight and you'll only get it on the airline for which that airport is a hub.

I go to the airport's website that I want to go travel to and see where they have departures to. Maybe it would be better for you to fly out of SFO.

Yes I always search SFO as well, but still non stop flights are very scarce. I see ads all the time for non stop flights from Oakland which is part of my frustrations, but when I search for them I can't find them. I know they are only on certain days. Honesty I don't care that much, but my husband who is 6'4" hates to fly and only wants to fly non-stop.
I will check out the sites you linked....

I'm looking at google flights and I think that is what I am looking for, but I think this is an area I am not good at, I swear I am good at almost anything online or anything logistics, but finding good flights is not my forte

What city in Mexico? Maybe we can help. I am fairly good at flight finding. Well any city in Mexico that flies non stop from Oakland preferably or SFO - I've been wanting to go to Sayulita or a town on the sea of Cortez which would fly into Puerto Vallarta - and only 3-4 nights over a weekend. I know people are doing no it so have no problem deal why it is so hard for me.... peas are the best

Google flights doesn't have every airline, so I would look around at specific airline sites if you are seeing ads but they aren't coming up in your searches.

have you ever tried using skyscanner.com? I would still book directly through the airline but its a good way to compare flights

What the heck Southwest isn't usually on travelocity or expedia. book directly through their website. Not all airlines/flights are on Expedia. I always check Southwest through their website. Another option is to look at your destination airport and find out what airlines fly into it from the US. Once you know the airlines, go to their sites directly to look at flight options. What the heck Southwest Flight 134 on Sept 23 gets you down non-stop. $153 Due to the loop the planes fly, the way back has a stop at LAX. Flight 111 $180.

I am skilled at making my own arrangements but I've gone back to using a travel agent for personal flights and car rentals. She hasn't saved me any significant money- but also hasn't raised the cost.
What she has done is sort through the options and found better choices, and updates me on changes the airlines make. She also has access to more or earlier seat choices and handles other tasks. I easily save a few hours planning time by going straight to her. Even with short flights.
If you have a specific requirement, you might give a travel agent a try.

Oakland is a "focus city" for Southwest. You would need to use their website. They are really expanding their flights to Mexico. SFO is the base for Virgin Airlines.
I usually use Google Flights and then go to the Southwest site.
I've heard Sayulita is nice!

I think your best bet is Elaine's suggestion. I went to sayulita in the early 2000s and had a blast. Such a cute little spot! Enjoy!

My great aunt and uncle were in the PV area for the winter and they picked us up and took us out of the city and we went to Sayulita and San Pancho. I guess one advantage to only have 2 airlines and one of them sucking is that you just go to good ones website direct and book your flight/vacation (they have vacation packages on their website). And pay 10x the amount that you all pay in the US
