linkWe are starting the next hundred days of the trump administration so a new thread for the next hundred days. I was planning on starting the new thread with a teeet. But ran across this quote from trump. It was an interview he gave Fox Nees about his first 100 days. "He blamed the constitutional checks and balances built in to US governance. “It’s a very rough system,” he said. “It’s an archaic system … It’s really a bad thing for the country.” In other words it's stopping him from doing anything he wants. The Framers purposely set up the constitution this way to keep people like you in check trump. I suspect the constitution will be tested multiple times during the next 4 years.

Yeah, I read that earlier and the thought that he would like to lead the country like his family owned/run businesses, came to mind. Also the fact that I am ever so grateful for those checks and balances, like never before.

Loyalty day Wants to change libel laws Opposes checks and balances which have been a cornerstone of the nation since inception.
And his supporters still don't see a problem.

These days I'm thankful for the checks and balances in our government more than ever before. I was going to say more but I really need to just stop right there!

He might be used to saying whatever he wants and having people jump and never question any of it, but thank goodness the US Government doesn't work like that! I wonder if he will EVER get the idea that HE works for US?

Thank God for checks and balances or we would have a dictator on our hands . While I agree with you, I fear that he's trying to take steps to eliminate many aspects of the C&B. Executive Orders, firing judges, etc. Plus having Congress on his side now and his SCOTUS appointment. It could get scary, especially with all his anti-media B.S.

Besides giving trump a copy of the constitution can some also give him a copy of America's history. Please....
From an interview he did today.
"President Donald Trump asked why the Civil War happened in an interview with journalist Salena Zito set to air Monday on Sirius XM.
"People don't realize, you know, the Civil War, if you think about it, why," the president said. "People don't ask that question, but why was there the Civil War?"
"Why could that one not have been worked out?" he continued.
Trump made the comments after going on a lengthy riff about President Andrew Jackson, a past president Trump believes was similar to himself in his populist views and bombastic campaigning.
"I mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little later, you wouldn't have had the Civil War," Trump said of the slave-owning president. "He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart. He was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War. He said 'there's no reason for this.'"

From Daily Kos....
"Budget deal includes $41 million for 'extraordinary costs' of indulging Donald Trump's golf and absentee family"
I heard about this last night and I remember starting a thread about trump and his comments that his weekend golf trips to Mar a Lago didn't cost that much.
Guess he was wrong yet again. I still think when the sons travel on trump family business they should reimburse the Secret Service for the security costs. I get that First Family children should have security. But how many of the kids traveled around the world for the family real estate business or any type of business for that matter.

From the Daily Beast......
"Trump’s secretary of commerce on Monday referred to the U.S. strike on a Syrian airbase as “after-dinner entertainment” for him and other guests at Mar-a-Lago the night of April 6. Speaking Monday at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles, Sec. Wilbur Ross fondly recalled the events at President Trump’s resort the night the U.S. military fired 59 Tomahawk missiles at one of the Syrian government’s strategic airbases. “Just as dessert was being served, the president explained to Mr. Xi he had something he wanted to tell him, which was the launching of 59 missiles into Syria,” Ross said, according to Variety. “It was in lieu of after-dinner entertainment.” The crowd reportedly laughed, and Ross added: “The thing was, it didn’t cost the president anything to have that entertainment.”
I don't know but when one makes the decision to bomb another country there is a lot of things I would calll it but one I certainly not say that it was "after-dinner entertainment". Nor would I say it didn't cost anything for that empntertaiment when in fact it cost the American taxpayer something like $800M dollars to "deliver a message" by bombing an airstrip that was up and running a couple of hours later.

From Bradley Whitfird.....
"Truman- "The buck stops here." @realdonaldtrump - "I don't stand by anything."
I saw trump say "I don't stand by anything" earlier today. He was talking to CBS John Dickerson. Well at least we know now.

“It’s an archaic system … It’s really a bad thing for the country.” Ummm...what??? The constitution is bad for the country? The document which the country was FOUNDED ON? WTF??? He's just pissed he didn't get to take over the WH office and dictate and get his own way. He wanted to be Hitler or God. Maybe he should have moved to China or Russia and gotten involved in their politics race. HE sure does admire their countries and their communist ways. Good Grief.

I guess he missed the memo that Andrew Jackson died long before the civil war started. Maybe he meant Van Buren??? Jackson died in 1845...civil war began in 1861. I can't believe people hear and read these interviews and don't laugh in his face. He is just so ignorant of everything.

World News Tonight.....
"Trump administration relaxes Obama-era school lunch standards; suspends sodium reduction, whole-grain requirements. abcn.ws/2qrl9pl"
Why are they doing this? This is just plain petty.

First trump tweet on the new thread.....
"President Andrew Jackson, who died 16 years before the Civil War started, saw it coming and was angry. Would never have let it happen!"
The good news he realizes Andrew Jackson was dead years before the Civil War. The bad news this didn't make it better because he proves he has to be right....

Tonight on Rachel Maddow she's not talking about Russia but some of the personal trump is putting into positions in the various departments. Boy is it depressing. Rachel calls them the lower B team. I can't help but think lucyg is right. We are doomed!

I meant to post this the other day but got sidetracked. I thought you might enjoy this take on Trump's first 100 days by Australian cartoonist Mark Knight: He's done a lot of Trump cartoons over the last 12 months or so...... plenty of fodder!

this came up on my facebook feed (Dan Rather) He was not wanting to take focus about Russia but couldn't help but comment on 45 thoughts on A Jackson, the Civil War and the general not knowing his history. The first sentence of the last paragraph rang so true to me. (bolded below)
To be President of the United States is to part of the great American story. To not understand that story is to not understand the presidency. Maybe Frederick Douglass can give Mr. Trump some advice. Apparently, he's "an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more."

I posted this on another thread, thought I'd share it here as well. Yep, we truly are doomed. This was from the CBS interview.
Did anyone pick up on this little snippet. They were discussing health care. Apparently building a strong military is more important than health care.
Yep, he really cares for the American people doesn't he?
TRUMP: Look, because, if you hurt your knee, honestly, I'd rather have the federal government focused on North Korea, focused on other things than your knee, OK, or than your back, as important as your back is.

On the history channel this morning is a show about the life of Andrew Jackson. Since Trump loves to watch TV, I hope he's watching it. Someone at the history channel is trolling him.

I've moved to the point of being actually embarrassed every time Trump opens his mouth. It's just that bad in my opinion. How in the world has he survived for 70 years? My teenagers have better manners, speaking skills and knowledge of the world. Even my 15 year old knows more about the civil war.
