I was zapped by lightening. I say zapped because it was an indirect hit. During a deluge, I was leaning out of my back door trying to clear out a drain that ran under our breezeway when lightening struck a satellite dish in my neighbours yard. Then current travelled through the wet ground and water up my left arm. It knocked me back into my house several feet. Me, too! I was sitting at my DH's computer in the office (front room in the house). It was mid-afternoon and pitch black outside due to a major thunderstorm. I was chatting with my DH online while he was at work. It was storming horribly...crazy thunder and lightening. Not thinking with my head, I asked DH if HE thought I should shut down the computer. It was plugged into a surge protector, so he said he thought it would be okay to leave it on. Not 2 minutes later, the house was struck by lightening. I was holding onto the computer mouse and the lightening surged through the mouse and out through the skin part between my thumb and pointer finger on my right hand! (I have a VERY small pin sized blue dot on the skin to prove it. DH still doesn't believe me. LOL) The mouse flew off of the desk and hit my right leg, just above the knee, and left a baseball sized bruise there. (Unfortunately for ME, it was gone by the time DH got home, so he didn't see THAT proof. ) The lightening bolt had struck the roof in the attic, burnt through a cable that was attached to a rafter (You could see black soot on either side of where the bolt hit), fried the office computer, master bedroom floor fan, phone system, alarm system, melted a nightlight that was plugged in and turned on, left a soot mark on the floor molding under the office desk where a phone line was resting against it, our TV and receiver. It was absolutely insane! To this day, I cannot believe there was no fire. Crazy! ~Susan~, I'm so glad you are okay! My DH was locking the sliding glass door one night before bed during a nasty storm. He had his palm on the door frame. Lightning struck a tree in our backyard and ran through the ground to the house. It knocked him to the ground and while he was fine it scared the crap out of me (and him) as I was standing there. The lights all went out and we had to flip all the fuses. Thankfully the lights came back on. Most all the big stuff was plugged into surge protectors but we did lose my sons 32" flat screen and had to completely replace the fuse for the outlets in DS room.

I love reading all the exciting things the peas have done! so cool. I have lived in 2 countries, and visited 24 countries. I was working in Albania when civil war broke out. I was there for 10 weeks (should have been 12) and left on a commercial aircraft 1 day before all airports, docks and borders were closed. 2 days later I would have had to be evacuated by the german or US military! Parasailed on one of the Great Barrier Reef Islands and snorkled part of the Reef. Walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Walked across the Bridge over the river Kwai in Thailand. Walked (hiked) Mt Kosciuszko (highest mountain in Australia) twice. Rode on an Elephant. Been to and touched the Great Pyramids in Egypt.......Amazing! Stood on the steps of the Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg.... singing in my head all the sound of music songs Saw Princess Diana's wedding gown in person, while it was on tour a few years ago. Such a beautiful gown! Visited the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Let's see..I've: Lived on a small farm and milked cows and goats every morning Ran away from home at 17 to get married Paid the rent several months in a row by playing quarters with the new guys in my ex's unit. No one could believe that a 5', less than 100lb 17 yo girl could outdrink the big guys; for some reason, tequila just doesn't affect me. A small glass of wine, though, and I'd have been under the table. Shot and field stripped an HK 91 and an HK 93. Didn't care for either. Defended myself from ex with a cast iron frying pan and a broom handle using moves he had taught me. Put him in the ER with a concussion and cracked ribs, but he never raised a hand to me again. Kayaked with manatees while watching out for gators. Lived in a 15x12' room with 5 other females while chaperoning a group of kayakers in Romania. Seen the USA flag flown over 2 international kayak events for the first time.

These are fascinating! I'd love to have dinner with some of y'all just to hear more about your experiences.
Mine include: - traveled to 15 countries - have been on 2 safaris - was detained and questioned by police in Zimbabwe almost missing my flight - went to France as an exchange student in high school - snuck across the closed border into Spain (during Basque wars) just to say I'd been there - watched the Apollo 11 moon shot in 1969 from our front yard (Cocoa Beach) - driven a race car and ridden a bicycle on a NASCAR track - hiked the Appalachian Trail through three states - sunned topless on a topless beach - saw both Donnie Osmond and The Jackson 5 in concert at the Omni in Atlanta - have been through 2 hurricanes, several tornadoes, and one mild earthquake Makes me want to create some new adventures... soon!

The craziest thing for me (since I'm terribly scared of heights) is that I've bungee jumped into a fjord, from a bridge that's 115 meters above water. They call it Euopes wildest bungee jump

Thanks, Olan! He is doing great! Now I have a genetic twin brother who is four years older than me! Do you ever use the "I saved your life" as leverage I totally would Naah....I'm grateful to have been a match. I DO get a box of Lifesavers for my birthday every year. The real gift is that I still have my brother.

Cool. I'm not a horrible speller but not a perfect one either. I'm fascinated by those kids. I enjoy watching the national spelling bee. How did you do? Fairly well, until I got out on a technicality, due to a microphone that wouldn't let me hear the different between a "p" and a "b" in a word. I pronounced the word "lobolith," was told my pronunciation was correct, started to spell it that way, and was dinged out in the middle of spelling the word. (The rules said the judges couldn't ding until the contestant finished spelling.) I knew almost all of the rest of the words used in the bee, so if it hadn't been for that, I could have placed much higher, and possibly won. That said, this was back in 1979. The National Spelling Bee was nowhere near as competitive as it is today. Nowadays, kids study Greek and Latin and other languages, focusing on the origins of words, so they can take a word's root, and use that to have a fairly good chance at spelling the word successfully, even if it's a long, complicated word they've never heard before. I'd probably barely make it through the first couple of rounds these days! Even more interesting: I grew up in a tiny town in east Tennessee. My family wasn't from there; we just moved to the area due to my dad's job. (Mom was from Huntsville, AL; Dad was from Salt Lake City.) I was the first from my county to ever go to the National Spelling Bee. Then my sister went as well, three years later. To this date, we're the only ones from that county who have ever gone to the National Spelling Bee.

I thought of another one:
I saw Peter Pan, starring Sandi Duncan, on Broadway when I was 4/5 years old and I found our way back to the hotel on the Subway system when the adults couldn't.

Got high with Willie Nelson. After 8 pages, this is still my favorite! Mine too! I went to a willie Nelson concert when I was 6 years old with my dad. My mom was sick in bed and my dad had two tickets and since she was sick and couldn't go he took me. I could pick one souvineer and I chose a pair of tan boys underware with a shiny iron on picture of willie Nelson on the front and willie on the back. Why I chose these I have no idea but my dad tried to get me to choose a t shirt but I was hard headed. My mother tells me I wore those underware almost everyday. I would sleep in different underware so she could wash them at night... I was a weird kid...still am.

Amazing. Love reading these.
I taught kids backstage on Broadway shows, in Movies (like War of the Worlds, for example) and on tv shows. Was backstage and in green rooms with students on Regis and Kelly, Letterman, All My Children, and lots more. Regis sang Christmas carols with the kids backstage. Really nice man.

The refupeas are an adventurous bunch! Some of you must have quite the bucket list!
I thought of another thing:
I sang with a choir at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome during a mass. An American bishop said mass; several young men were installed as transitional deacons. We had to learn a new mass, in Latin, from a list of approved masses.

It's not going to fall into the category of thrilling, more unusual- but I officiated an infant funeral for a young friend of mine when her daughter passed away. I was glad I could help her in some way through that dark time, And I pray I'm never asked again.

Currently fostering 2 large dogs for a Marine deployed to many dangerous countries. We have had them since February 1st and they will be here til at least October. We have 3 dogs of our own. If we had not taken them he would have had to put them to sleep as all his dog sitters backed out at the very last minute.
This is their owners 8th deployment and he has been wounded several times and saved several lives including carrying out a soldier who had his leg blown off. HE is a true hero and seen many things that we are all blessed not to have seen.

I was asleep in my bed at 5 am and my roommate woke me up to go see the sunrise with Willie Nelson - or as he called himself "Tex". I walked out in the living room, verified that Yes, it was Willie Nelson and went back to bed. I'm from Tahoe, she had met him in the casinos after her shift and they partied all night. She kept in contact with him and we visited him at his son's house in the bay area. Didn't get high with him though, but I met him twice.

It is not something one would put on their bucket list, but it takes someone special to honor their friend like that.
