I played roller hockey, in the south, in the 70's. I went to Nationals twice. Yes, hockey has been around in the south longer than most people think. It took time for ice hockey to get here though.
I posted about this on another thread recently........I was the city champion in chinning when I was in 6th grade.
I've done some things that others posted but these two seem to be unique.

I have been interviewed and studied for behavioral research for about 25 years and counting! There are many of us across the US so I'm sure I'm not the only gal here that is a lab rat for this study, but it is something unusual to most people who learn this about me.

I've been white-water rafting on the New River in WVa Gone spelunking in the caves of WVa and spent the night in a dead cave Walked across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (4.3 miles, 186 feet high) Climbed up the steps to the top of the Washington Monument and down again The Bay Bridge walk honestly makes my tummy ache. ACK!! ooooooh..... I am soooo queasy now. I have a love/hate relationship with it. Was it the east or west bound bridge?? It was the original span. They had closed it to traffic for the walk; we rode motorcycles up to Annapolis and parked in the Naval Academy lot, took a shuttle bus over the other span, and walked back on the original span. It was pretty exciting. especially waaay up there on the grate at the top but I wish I had planned better - I only had my motorcycle boots on and those suckers got reeeal heavy on my feet after awhile. I ended up completing the trek in my socked feet! But I hear you on the love/hate, queasy thing. I really dislike going over it in the car and always stay in the middle, away from the side. Didn't bother me as much on the walk, but in the car, whew, scary. Do they still have it? I read that they had discontinued it because of financial woes and that accident a few years back.

I was zapped by lightening. I say zapped because it was an indirect hit. During a deluge, I was leaning out of my back door trying to clear out a drain that ran under our breezeway when lightening struck a satellite dish in my neighbours yard. Then current travelled through the wet ground and water up my left arm. It knocked me back into my house several feet.

I illustrated for many years for a number of children's magazines, including: Turtle, Humpty Dumpty, Children's Digest, Children's Playmate and the Friend. A toy I designed was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Greatest Toys of All Time. You can read more about it here.I was on a TV game show in the '80s (Tic Tac Dough) and won a trip to France. You can read about that here!

I never knew you could walk across it at any time! Pretty cool! I once went over it sitting behind my ldh on his (one seat) motorcycle at something like 2am on a foggy and slightly windy night. We had most of the trip to ourselves. Talk about spooky!

leftturnonlyYes, it used to be an annual thing, but I think it's been canceled for the last several years. We used to purposely go over it late at night to get to the beaches in the summer - way less traffic - but oh yeah, on a foggy and windy night, spooky as hell! lol

How cool that you got to walk across the Bay Bridge! Living in Annapolis I was a bit intimidated by it the first few times I went over it, but now I love it and make sure to get in the lane close to the water so I have the best view of the boats and the water below. It is a thrilling ride! My sister on the other hand is terrified to drive across it. They used to have a public service where they would drive you across it in your car for free (very nice), but then they turned it over to a private company and now it's $25.00 each way.

Ran a marathon. Grabbed a man by the trench coat lapels as he escaped out of the mother-infant unit across from the unit where I worked after the code infant abduction had just been called. It was a drill. He was a friend of a security guard. They told me not to do that if it were real. I still would. Captured wild yeast and made my own sourdough bread.

What fun things some of us have done! Here is my list: - I've been north of the Yukon River in Alaska, rode in a canoe to do so from the end of the road!
- I was Girls State Governor of Alaska
- I passed my first rank in Kendo (Japanese Sword Sport) as a 16 year old exchange student to Japan.
- I've swam in the big pool with dolphins and watched the Orcas have their monthly blood work done at Sea World as a "trainer for a day".
- I've gone windsurfing in 4 states (Oregon, Washington, California, Hawaii)
- I've been a ski instructor in 2 states (OR, CA) and worked with handicapped skiers, and guided blind skiers. My favorite student a little girl who was a double amputee below the knees who said "OH NO, my legs are falling off" during our first lift ride. Quick thinking, I put my skis under hers to catch them before the fell to the snow below.
- Sparked wintergreen lifesavers in the bottom of the Indian caves in Yosemite National Park three times.
- Nominated and championed a Gates Millennium Scholar who is now a Univ of Cal professor. She was a first generation Hmong and it paid for her undergrad degree.
- I've climbed to the top of the ancient pyramids just outside of Mexico City.
- I've been published in a Hungarian newspaper b/c I took a photo of the World Champion Hungarian team in the Flying Dutchmen sailboat class. My husband was sailing in the regatta and I just happened to get the best shot they've ever had while sailing.
- I've flown 7 different glider types (I see there are a few pilots here!)
- I became a mother at 49 through adoption.
That's what I can think of off the top of my head!

Such cool things! And some crazy things... you guys are a lot braver than I am! Some random things, most which revolve around Disney because I'm a huge nerd -Had dinner in Club 33 at Disneyland (the thread reminded me of it) -Snorkled in Belize (the biggest barrier reef in the Northern Hemisphere) -Performed at Disneyland (middle school band lol) -Got lost in St. Peter's Basilica.. and by that, I mean I lost my group/family. Probably doesn't seem like a big deal, but that place is wall to wall people and I was about to lose my sh!t. I was so scared lol -Performed CPR and otherwise helped try to save people... and in other instances, took care of people after they expired. I'm a nurse, so part of the job, but still sucks -Met Jodi Benson, talked to her, and took a photo... she was so nice! (voice of Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Barbie in Toy Story 3) -Also met and got photos with Pat Carroll (voice of Ursula) and Margaret Kerry (original Tinkerbell model) -Fostered kittens (a total of 7 so far) -Been proposed to in the middle of the Golden Gate bridge

When motorcycling in Europe with dh (I was a passenger) we did 138mph on the autobahn! It was awesome! I did this when I was 20 in my husband's sports car on a barren stretch of highway while driving cross-country. Dumb! I've traveled and done quite a few crazy wonderful things. Too much to list. Crazier though is when I saw an apartment on fire, pulled over and ran past the crowd, smashed open the fire extinguisher, ran into the building, and came out with a baby. Life tip: kick those suckers in, don't use the stupid stick. You'll end up bloody.

I can only think of a few: Won 3 contests in 2 years through the Metallica fan club as an invited guest to invite only shows. Graduated from college at the age of 48 with high honors. Met all the members of Motley Crue in the 80's and met Vince Neil (their singer) 4 times. Ran in to him at a local bar here and tried as I might to sleep with him (it didn't happen). Was at the wedding of a crew member of the band Iron Maiden in 1988, I think. My grandfather played live piano or organ music at a local chapel and I snuck in with him. I got to do a underwater photo shoot with Kirk Weddle (he shot the famous Nirvana "naked baby" album).

I just re-read my post, and I remembered why I never posted about it before; it sounds like a made up story. It happened though, and I can still remember how mad my mom was when I called to tell her. "You did WHAT!? It was on FIRE??"

I also flew in a helicopter, but it wasn't as amazing as Hawaii or delivering gifts to kids in the hospital. I was Life Flighted. I was the only girl on my 9th grade football team- only girl in our district. I don't think other girls have played in our district since. I would have gone on, but I tore all the ligaments in my knee, and my mom said no more.

Then current travelled through the wet ground and water up my left arm. It knocked me back into my house several feet. Me, too! I was sitting at my DH's computer in the office (front room in the house). It was mid-afternoon and pitch black outside due to a major thunderstorm. I was chatting with my DH online while he was at work. It was storming horribly...crazy thunder and lightening. Not thinking with my head, I asked DH if HE thought I should shut down the computer. It was plugged into a surge protector, so he said he thought it would be okay to leave it on. Not 2 minutes later, the house was struck by lightening. I was holding onto the computer mouse and the lightening surged through the mouse and out through the skin part between my thumb and pointer finger on my right hand! (I have a VERY small pin sized blue dot on the skin to prove it. DH still doesn't believe me. LOL) The mouse flew off of the desk and hit my right leg, just above the knee, and left a baseball sized bruise there. (Unfortunately for ME, it was gone by the time DH got home, so he didn't see THAT proof. ) The lightening bolt had struck the roof in the attic, burnt through a cable that was attached to a rafter (You could see black soot on either side of where the bolt hit), fried the office computer, master bedroom floor fan, phone system, alarm system, melted a nightlight that was plugged in and turned on, left a soot mark on the floor molding under the office desk where a phone line was resting against it, our TV and receiver. It was absolutely insane! To this day, I cannot believe there was no fire. Crazy! ~Susan~, I'm so glad you are okay!
