that life is fair? That if you live a good life, do the right things you will be rewarded? Some people do the opposite, and probably sleep well at night.
Not sure if this is a real question, or a philosophical discussion.

I think my parents taught me that life ISN'T fair. Or rather, fairness has nothing to do with life -- life just is. Good things happen, bad things happen, sometimes you try hard and get exactly what you want and sometimes you try even harder and don't get what you are aiming for.

If life were fair, those who work out wouldn't have to keep increasing the intensity of their workouts to keep seeing healthy changes.
If life were fair, children wouldn't get cancer and brain rumors and a million other horrible diseases.
If life were fair, roses wouldn't be so hard to grow. And weeds would be.
If life were fair, every soldier would come home healthy and to a heros welcome.
If life were fair, thieves would never get away with it.

Judgement day?
eta: that was too short. I like to live good in hopes that it will pay off. Maybe life isn't fair and there are so many examples of it but I won't dwell. I think it is worth it to be good and do the right thing. If life doesn't do it for me I hope when judgement day comes I will be rewarded. Until then I am content being a do gooder.

I guess it's just something I've always known and accepted. Sometimes less than others.

i'm a do gooder too, i couldn't sleep at night otherwise. i don't know how people do it... lie, cheat, steal, i just don't know how they do it and live through it, it would eat me alive! in my heart i want to believe that they'll get theirs, but when they are living in nice houses, driving awesome cars, kids in a ton of activities, going on vacations etc... and i'm struggling to put food on the table... i just really wonder!

I don't think life is fair. I don't even think belief in an afterlife makes this life fair. I just think that perhaps when one reaches the afterlife they no longer care if this life was fair.

Always do the very best you can do Lose with grace Win with even more grace Never lie to yourself and understand sometimes wanting something to happen is not enough to make it so Pick yourself up, remind yourself that life is not fair and move on
and sometimes I just let myself cry until I can't cry anymore.

I have never expected life to be fair. Good and bad things happen to good people as well as bad people.
DH and I have had some really rotten things happen to us, as well as some wonderful things. Our second son and his wife seem to live a charmed and amazing life, at least on the outside to people who didn't know personal details. Their house is gorgeous. But unknown to many people is the fact that their beautiful, sunshiny, sweet little girl has Neurofibromatosis Type 1. There are a lot of major trials in store for their family, and they have already been through a few.
A former co-worker of DH's was a real scumbag. He had a huge house and drove a hot car. He got custody of his five kids, and his wife got zip. Karma eventually caught up with him, his kids went back to their mom after they petitioned the judge for change of custody, and the lawsuit he thought would net him big bucks all went to paying the lawyers.
Life is filled with both challenges and blessings. Sometimes we make choices that increase our challenges (like drinking and driving), but overall, everyone has both in their lives. Gratitude for the good things, and a determination not to let the hard things destroy you makes a huge difference in whether or not life breaks you.
If anyone truly seems to lead a life free of problems, it's a pretty sure bet that trouble is waiting around the corner. It may be delayed, but eventually, it will catch them. Trials are part of life.

Don't know if I can say it better than this. But I was raised to know life isn't fair. You never know what goes on behind closed doors, and just because someone looks like they have it all together doesn't always mean it is so. Good things and bad things happen to everyone. Loss and gain are universal. The onus is on you to choose how you deal with what life has in store for you.

When enough crappy stuff happens to good people you learn that life is unfair. It's not punishment, or a superrnatural phenomenon. Life just isn't fair. Things don't always work out in the end. Things aren't always going to be just fine. Find people who are loving and lovable, hold them close and hang on, cause life is a bumpy ride!
One of my favorite sayings is:
Sometimes you get what you want! Sometimes you get what you need! Sometimes you get what you get!
It's what you do w/what you get that makes the difference.

If we do not know struggle, how do we know ease?
If we do not know sadness, how do we know joy?
If we do not know failure, how do we know success?
If we do not know loneliness, how do we know connected?
If we do not know loss, how do we know love?

Not sure if this is a real question, or a philosophical discussion. You can only be responsible for your own actions, not other people's. Do the right thing because it's the right thing. The good things and bad things that come to you in life are often independent of whether you choose to work hard, treat people honestly and kindly, etc.

I don't know. I don't know if life is pre destine I don't think karma really happens..i so wish it did though I know life is full of compromise And stuff happens no matter what you do. Good or bad, stuff happens No matter what is happening to other people and how much more worse off than you, your problems still matter to you. You can't compare yourself to other people. Try to find the good in every day.

I think you have to school yourself to accept it while still doing your personal best to make sure that you treat others fairly.

If you want to use your energy bitching about the hand you've been dealt, you squander the possibility that you can have a better life.
I also believe if you envy what others have it will never come to you.

Must have heard it every day as a kid, my parents really believed it. Especially the last line. I am trying to bring my kids up with the same expectation.

I don't think karma really happens..i so wish it did though This is me. I so badly want it to be true - if I'm good, good things will happen to me. But I know it's not. My mother is an amazing giving person and yet she seems to have been dealt such a crappy hand in life. But even then, knowing it's not true, I still act like it is, because it makes me happy in and of itself. It feels good to do the right thing. (but then having never really done the wrong thing... Maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about). /incoherent rambling.

Life isn't fair, isn't even close to fair. I operate on the theory that as long as I know I've done my best, and not hurt anyone, then in a way I've already won, regardless of what life hands me.
