When was the last time you watched The Breakfast Club? Did you like it? Hate it? I watched it last night and realized as I watched it I realized that it is still pretty relevant to issues that teens have today. Sure the characters were stereotypical, and I was surprised at the language/topics, but still thought that what the teens had to say was universal enough that kids watching it today could relate. It has definitely withstood the passage of time and I dare say it could be put into the category of "classic" movie. Here are two thoughts I had while I watched it: a) I wish my son had of watched it with me and b) I remember now why I had a such a crush on John Bender. What do you guys think? Have you seen it recently?

I watch it every time it comes on!
My son (18 yr. old) stumbled upon it once and really liked it.
I agree, the clothes & lingo may be dated, but the storyline and characters really aren't.
Needless to say, loved it.
And oh yes, have always had a thing for Judd Nelson.

Watched it a couple years ago with my now 22 yo. Was just saying to him the other day that we needed to watch it with the younger sister, she's never seen it.

I've watched it recently and still loved it. It did still bug me, as it did back in the day, that Ally Sheedy's character was the only one who had to change to really be acceptable to the group. Can you tell that I hung with an artsy crowd that did weird stuff on a regular basis?

I thought the movie was okay when it first came out. I did like how Emilio E.'s and Molly R.'s characters talked about the pressures they face from expectations about them to be successful. However, the scene where Ally Sheedy's character had scratched her head so much that her drawing is covered with dandruff so that it looked like snow skeeved me out a little bit, that's just gross. Nothing "artsy" about that. ETA: OOOOOOOO, with this post, I became a "throbbing member" ?? Seriously? Am I reading a bad bodice-ripper book?

saw it last night. I was their movie age when the movie came out and I saw it then. I think many of the issues are still relevant today. alley sheedy's character would be kinda hip today but I don't think they would tag her as a basket case.

It's not a favorite of mine, and I was a teen when it came out, so that should be my kind of movie. Nope.

Interestingly, the last time I watched it I was surprised at how my take on it has changed since I've become the parent. Having said that, it's still fabulous.

i recently watched it...and loved it...again! "screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place" I just used this quote yesterday! It it is different to watch as an adult, especially for my dh who is a high school teacher. He can actually understand where Mr. Vernon is coming from. Not that he agrees with him, but he can see his point. I still love Molly Ringwald's hair. I so wanted that hair in the 80's!

I watched it this summer with my nearly 16 yr old DS and he loved it.
I think there will always be the labels they talk about in the movie. They just might have a different name for them as each generation moves through high school.
Lessons and real world high school woes seem to pass on generation to generation.

I loved it when it first came out and I love it now. I watch it whenever it's on and have it on DVD. My kids loved it too. Don't know if the grandkids have seen it or not. I'll have to find out.

Loved it then, and still really like it. I'd say it's been about a year since I watched it. My DD loves it, so I watched it with her.

I have watched it many times (practically know it by heart) and agree - the message of the movie is still relevant. I think most of John Hughes movies are that way. Many people can relate to them, no matter what your generation you come from

Just watched it in June on an airplane trip to see my son at Boot Camp graduation. My Husband, Daughter and I watched the DVD on her computer. We all love it. My daughter knows every single word to the movie (it's almost annoying.) She used to make her friends that would spend the night watch it if they hadn't seen it and they all love it now too. Love John Hughes movies!

It is actually on as we speak! Sixteen Candles was on right before it too. Both movies I can still quote almost word for word.
I liked it in the 80s and still think it is very relevant to some of the pressures teens have now. I think John Hughes had a really good grasp on teens of that age. I often wonder what movies he would make today.

Mentioned the premise to DS, 13. I would totally let him watch. He's interested- we'll have to DVR it the next time it comes on.

We watched Sixteen Candles not too long ago and when the boys heard that line they both turned and looked at me and said at almost the exact same time "SO that is where you got it!"

MY 15yo DD loves it. Seems very relevant. Our high school had a major threat of mass murder/suicide prevented by a kid who cared. We had two suicides last year. One by a girl who seemed to have it all going on and by another who was clearly not okay, but couldn't get the help she needed. Both tragic and difficult for my kid to get her head around. My kid still struggles with the whys....
Breakfast Club is still relevant today. The same issues are still being dealt with.
