Poor Wyatt! I can't stand it! We volunteer for a dog rescue and so many dogs are returned! I don't get it. My heart breaks every time. We are fostering one right now who's family was moving and couldn't take her with them. It's been a week and she is still walking around the house whining. All we can do is love on her and hope to make her feel some comfort but she is missing her family.
This is one of the reasons why rescues are so picky about pet adoptions. People get annoyed at ours because we do turn people down when we don't feel like their situation matches the dog's personality. We try to find them a dog more suitable, but sometimes they lose it. The dog's in our rescue are luckily all in foster's homes so they can be assessed as to their personality.
Our contract states also that if the dog needs to be returned, that it is returned to us, no reprimand. That was we can re home the dog and not have it in a shelter facing possible euthanasia.

If they had no more commitment than that, they should have never taken Wyatt home and given him false hope. I feel so sad for him. Do you know anyone that might take him, give him a home and lots of love? Poor little baby.

Awwww, poor guy! It took Starsky 2 weeks and 2 days to really accept Canon. And there's no way I would've taken him back unless Starsky was trying to hurt him and I was scared Canon would get hurt. That said, I'd try everything I COULD before actually taking him back. It's been a little less than a week since Starsky's gotten over Canon's invasion. And now they play quite a few times every day. I love it! I hope the pup finds another home...his FOREVER home...soon.

That's a shame, hope he gets adopted soon. We have a gorgeous red and white Greyhound who was a bounce back from adoption, failure to adopt for a year, failure in race training school and failure in service dog training. He is 95 pounds of rowdiness. Greyhounds are usually pretty mellow, but not this guy. He jumped, happy nipped when he got too excited and generally plowed into people overwhelmed with joy to see someone.
When he failed racing school he was just a year old and was sent to rescue for adoption. Someone adopted him, but he was still so puppied out and tough to handle so was returned. He sat in the kennel waiting for adoption for a year, he was just too much for most people. Then he was sent to service dog training and was not successful, just too goofy, not serious or very bright. They had no room at the kennel to take him back so they begged me to take him.
That was almost three years ago and he is doing great. Overall it took him a good year to settle down. I have had several greyhounds and they are usually older when I adopted them and generally takes them maybe a week or two to totally settle in. They are so adaptable.
Also, I thought this boy was pretty, well, low functioning. But it turns out he is really farsighted so we have trained and have helped him adapt and he is so much better.

that is so sad. poor baby. My monster was a pup when I got her a few yrs back. I really shouldn't have got a puppy either BUT, I did. She is so entertaining... She'd already been rehomed and returned. When I saw her picture relisted on CL I emailed ASAP. The people even dropped the $s for her because it was the wkend and I couldn't get to the bank til Monday. There was a clue in there... She was a bit of a terror and the first yr I had scratches on my arms and legs on a regular basis (just her being puppy rowdy). But she settled down. She'd been in not such a good home and the rehome wasn't so good either. There was no way I was giving up on her. She is a fruitcake. I should have named her Psycho. But I think she was lucky to get me since many wouldn't deal with it. She does make me laugh. I don't think she barked the first yr here except at birds and anything blowing by within her sight. Earlier today a pop can had blown from somewhere and was next to her pen. She barked up a storm at it until I went out and saved her from it.

Oh no, poor Wyatt! I hope he finds his forever home soon, with people who are prepared to put in more than a feeble four day effort.
Hey, don't you think Jaxon, Abby and Holly would LOVE a new brother?!?!?!

I'm very glad he had a good outcome, but as to the original story, I guess I'd rather someone return him after 4 days than 4 months. If someone is not willing to put in the work a puppy takes it's probably best for everyone if they recognize that early on. So many dogs are given up once the cute puppy has grown into a dog Kittens too.
