Count me as someone else who never heard them called funeral sandwiches until NSBR. My stepmom makes these for when we go to the beach and we eat them for breakfast! They also freeze pretty well. They show up often at holiday parties or church potlucks, that sort of thing here where I live.

I've never seen them served or heard of them other than on here. Are they soggy? With all that marinade on them, Do you have to spoon them onto a plate and eat with a spoon?
I had a coworker who used to bring what she called funeral potatoes to every event. I was warned off of them by another coworker. He told me they had instant potatoes and cornflakes in them. Is this what most people defer to as funeral potatoes? The buzz around our office was that they were so awful they could kill you. Hence the name.

Those do sound good. I've seen them so many times on the boards but never actually made them. Maybe it's time to put them on then menu.

I'm really going to have to make these one day. I keep hoping some will show up somewhere I go, but no luck so far...
