Ordered a car on Uber to taker to the airport. 10 minutes into the drive the car broke down. It was a hybrid and lost all electrical power. Driver was very apologetic and helped me flag down the replace my Uber car. If not for the breakdown I would have given him 5 stars.

If you made it to the airport on time and everything else went as planned, I would still give them 5, because the driver resolved the issue.

agree ... I would give the driver 5 stars because he (probably) doesn't control the maintenance on the car. I would however express my frustration to the company customer's service. So it also might depend on who is doing the survey and why. I would hope they would have separate sections/questions there.

Uber cars belong to the driver. They don't belong to Uber like a cab compay car. So,yes, I'd dock his stars. He should have been aware of his power needs before accepting the call.

Uber is able to skirt laws governing cab companies because the cars are owned by the drivers. Uber only acts as a point of contact between a driver and a passenger. The drivers are self employed. They aren't paid by Uber and Uber has no control over them beyond booting them from having access to passenger information if they prove to be unreliable.

I'd give four or 4.5 stars if possible. And explain everything you did here.

I made it to the airport on time. But, I resolved the issue by scheduling another Uber. I gave him three stars, but have been doubting that. But, then I am really lucky we didn't break down on the Brooklyn Bridge or something.

I thought just UberX drivers owned their own cars? If everything else was okay, I'd go with 4.

3 is good since you resolved it for him.

I thought just UberX drivers owned their own cars? If everything else was okay, I'd go with 4. All Uber, Lyfte and other application accessible services are private hired cars. The driver's own the cars. Uber is very vocal about not being a transportation company but only a technology service that matches riders with drivers. If you want to drive with them you have to own your own car.

Oh then I change my answer if he is the owner of the car....I would give him no more than a 3.

I'm a softie. The snafu wasn't intentional, he was polite & helpful. I'd still give 5. If he was was a jerk or intentionally did something to ruin the trip, one star would be the least of his problems

You have to have a license to do this here in Utah. I just saw a local article that drivers were getting $6,000 tickets for not being licensed after multiple warnings.
I don't know anything about it but I would give him a 3 at the highest, given the inconvenience.

Do you have to rate them? This may be a case where I would skip the rating/review. I've never used Über though, so I don't know the specifics.

I must be the only hard nose here. If I hired someone to take me to the airport and they failed, IF I left a review it would be one star regardless of how nice and/or helpful they were. I would mention they were helpful in the review, but still.....

I think 3 is fair, 4 would be nice and just explain what happened. I personally love Uber. So pleasant compared to surly cab drivers with filthy cabs.

Was this your first Uber Ride? I haven't used them yet.

My experience with uber has always been great. The cars have to be pretty new, and they are owned by the drivers. I've never been in an uber car that was not immaculate and well kept. If this car were a beater, I'd assume it was neglect that led to the breakdown. Otherwise, I would assume it was the car, which is not the fault of the driver, and give him a good rating.

It wasn't my first Uber rude, but the first I booked on my own. In the past I have always been with DH or a group from work/NYC and they have booked the car. DH said the mistake was booking Uber X instead of a Black Car. The replacement Uber was a Honda Pilot. Still nicer than a cab ride, but the driver was a big honker and seemed very grumpy dealing with traffic and going out to JFK. Not that I blame him, I wa grumpy about it too :-)

What's the difference between Uber and Uber X? We've used Uber before.... oh wait, it's coming to me now, it wasn't Uber, it was Lyft. But I haven't heard of Uber X, is it different? (And I'm assuming Black Car is a local company?)

X is cheaper, but if you order UberX and the closest available car is a black car, that's what you might get.

Uber has different classifications. Black car and Uber X are both Uber cars. Uber X is the less expensive option.
