I live in what I consider to be a very safe city just outside St. Louis (St. Charles). I realize no where is truly safe, but I live in a typical suburban middle class subdivision where neighbors know each other and I feel safe going for walks at night with my dog. I have lived her for 23 years, and there has never been any crime other than the occasional car break-ins.
I just read this morning on my neighborhood's Next Door site that Tuesday night, there was a shooting just a few houses away from me. I guess I slept through it, but my street was even closed for a while. I've heard conflicting things...a few people on the Next Door site said it was a random shooting, someone else said it was targeted. As of last night, they haven't found the person who did it, they just know it was someone in a green pick up.
Whether it was random or not, YIKES!!

That is scary! There was a similar situation last year in the neighborhood next to ours (there is a main street dividing the two sections but still considered the northend of the city). The woman was walking her dog, someone drove by and killed her. The fbi and police have not solved the case yet. The part of town it happened in is filled with beautiful Victorian homes and a family oriented area. nhpr.org/post/manchester-police-looking-leads-north-end-shooting-death#stream/0

Yes, it happens in the best of neighborhoods. We had a woman killed at the end of our street a few years ago as she closed up the convenience store she worked at. They killed two people and shot at a 3rd who escaped (he was pulled up to an ATM). Combo robbery/gang initiation in our case.

Well, you know, Pam Hupp is a suburbanite and she may be a serial killer. Yikes. Are you in St. Charles proper or St. Peters? I have some family in St. Peters and there are some pretty dicey areas there. I am an urban dweller myself - south city!! Anyway, nice to see a local here!!

I live in the Harvester area. Not St. Peters, but unincorporated St. Charles. Not sure if you are familiar with that area, but is off Highway 94 about halfway between 70 and 40/64.

There are definitely some areas of town where it is a little bit sketchier, but not too bad. There are sometimes convenient store robberies and things like that. My own little subdivision though...I have never felt unsafe there. There are always people out walking after dark, etc. I requested to join our subdivision facebook group, so I am hoping once I am on there I will be able to find out more information about what happened.

No, but we keep saying we need to walk down there, especially as it's about 150 yards from our house. Are you in Lindenwood Park? If so, are you on our Facebook page?

Sorry to hear that kind of news, I'm glad you're ok. I've always heard those kinds of things aren't usually random, and that there is usually a known drug feud that fuels it. Hopefully it's a one time thing and the police can flush out anything more.
Not St Louis, but I'm close to you in Columbia. Not too many Missouri peas here, so it's good to find another one!
