Tomorrow I get fitted for my CPAP mask. My at home sleep study showed I had 52.5 obstructions per hour. It's no wonder I have so many concentration issues.
I was looking up masks and since I am a side sleeper, the Dream Wear mask looks like it might be a good style for me. Does anyone here have feedback on it or other masks?
Update: I used the CPAP for the first time last night. I ended up with the Dream Wear mask that only rests under the nose. I kept it on for six hours and DH said I slept very quietly. I did not have a headache for the first time in months. 👍🏻

My Dh uses nasal pillows. He finds a full mask makes him feel claustrophobic. Whatever you choose, it takes a while to get used to. IIRC, I believe he was given two or three styles on a trial basis, then only purchased the one he liked.

My doctor's office has several masks on hand - they selected the one that was best for me, I was able to try on several. I would see what they suggest.

You are going to learn to love your CPap, though you might not at first. Getting a full night's rest/sleep is so awesome.
the company I got mine from let you bring back the mask within three months to exchange it for another if the first one did not work out. Your doctor will give you a prescription and you take it to the Home Health Equipment store of your choice. Ask around and find out what other CPap wearers are using.

IIRC, I believe he was given two or three styles on a trial basis, then only purchased the one he liked. My husband uses this as well and is very comfortable. His has some sort of moisture device in it, and he puts distilled water into it nightly. Also, he bought a sanitizing device which goes on automatically every day for a few minutes. ETA: I just asked my husband specifics. He said he highly recommends a unit called Airsense 10 from Resmed. (He said there is one that's very unpopular called DreamStation that some doctors seem to try to push.)

I use one that just covers the nose area. It was great at first, but I've been having problems with it of late. I think it's time for a new harness. I replace the mask insert about every 2 weeks as recommended and it needs to be replaced that often. I may look into the one recommended for side sleepers as mine isn't really great for that.
one thing I do like about my mask - the pressure in it causes me to keep my mouth shut and my jaw seems to stay pulled forward. Since I've been using it, my headaches have decreased tremendously. I really think the majority of them were being caused by the offset and back position my jaw was taking when I sleep.
Your unit should come with a humidifier. Use it. Love it. Take care of it. It is your best best friend. Start out with the humidity hiked up and lower it very slowly, if at all. Use the delay setting so that you aren't blasted with air the minute you lay your head down. The first night I used mine, I didn't use the humidifier and I didn't use the delay; the next morning, I felt like I had a terrible case of strep and sinusitis. I, of course, consulted the Peas, and they gave me a crash course in how not to do that again. LOL
Be prepared - you may sleep so deeply and for so long, you wake up achy from laying in one position for most of the night. It's worth the aches!

It took me about 2 months and 3 different masks to find the one that worked best for me. And they are always coming out with new ones so if the first one doesn't work, keep trying!

I have nasal pillows. The first night I used it, i thought I was suffocating. Crazy, I know, but that's what it felt like. I considered using it for about 2 hours that first night as a win. But by the end of the first week of use, I was able to use it all night. It has CHANGED MY LIFE. Do not give up, it will take several months to get used to it. I can now wear it and I don't feel it anymore, unless the nose pillows attachment is getting old, and that's when I know I need a new set.
Good luck and I hope you feel wonderful soon after using your CPAP!

I use a full face mask. I am claustrophobic but don't mind this at all. Took me one night to get used to it. Love it!!! The thought of the nasal pillows is repulsive to me. Seems like it would feel like a blast of air going up your nose.

I use the Resmed Airfit N10. It's a nasal mask, so it covers the nose only. I tried but couldn't get used to the nasal pillows. I've had different models of nasal mask over the years and this one is the best for me.
And don't get discouraged if you can't wear it all night in the beginning - it's takes some time to get used to it.
Good Luck!
(BTW - Before CPAP I had 30-40 AHI's per hour and now with it I average less than 1.)

I am claustrophobic and use the Resmed AirFit F10 Full Face. I am a side sleeper and do not have problems with it.
That said everyone is different and I hope you find one that works for you.

I have the dreamstation and a mask that just covers the nose. I didn't have a choice in what they brought me, they suggested that I try using it around the house while watching tv or reading a book and build up to all night. It took about 4 or 5 days. I really liked it at first but it's been about a year and I had a bad cold...I got out of the habit of wearing it and need to get back into wearing it nightly.

I hate mine. This thread reminds me that I should try again. I feel like I'm smothering most of the time.

Wow, I can't believe you were able to have good results after the first wear! It took me a few weeks and a couple of masks (and lots tears) to finally get a good nights rest. Hoping you will continue to be headache free.

Like others I have the one that just covers my nose. My only complaint is that I get a sore spot in one side of my nose that flairs up now and then which I assume is from the forced air. I remember when I first started to use it when I woke up at say 3 am I'd leave it off, now I put it back on!
I am a stomach sleeper so no one should worry that you can't use a cpap because of it. Only once in a blue moon do I move the mask when I sleep so the air is annoying to my SO. Definitely a rare occurrence.
