I was planning on using tomorrow evening to sit down and calmly attempt to make some sort of card to add to a present I was meant to give away this weekend. But due to unforeseen circumstances, I found out I was going to need to put something together today if I wanted to make sure the gift came with a card as it would be handed over by the end of the afternoon. With a heavy workload and no possibility to go back home over lunchtime, I had to call my boyfriend and ask him whether he could bring me over a few things during his lunch break (#TrueLove). I let him choose what he thought would work for a quick card and only requested tape, Heidi Swapp Color Shine in gold and a few Distress Oxide pads. I had sent him the photo I was planning to print and use for the card (I didn't want to burden him with stamps, sentiments, etc.) and told him to keep it simple. So, armed with six Distress Oxide pads, gold Color Shine, a piece of pink cardstock, half a sheet of copper foil tiny stickers about cats from Studio Calico's Felix line (there was a cat in the photo so I think his brain just went: "Perfect match!" ), half a sheet of brightly-coloured puffy hearts and the leftover chipboard stickers from the Good Life thickers (for Pink Paislee's Oh My Heart collection), I went ahead and did my best during my two coffee breaks. I had to borrow a paper trimmer that was so not made for scrapping and cutting small pieces. Use cotton buds/swabs from my on-the-go makeup case because I didn't ask for any tools (silly me). Try to find something that would work amongst the 6 pieces of paper scraps he had brought (and he thought it was a lot!), Sprinkle water with my fingers. Use a glassine bag to add some texture. And sigh at the look of the embellishments on hand. But hey ho, I managed to make something acceptable. All hail Distress Oxide! They saved the day and made this minimalist card look a lot better. They were a pleasure to work with despite all the clandestine finger sprinkling of water and blue fingertips by the end of it. But in two 15-minute breaks and with Monet's Water Lilies on my mind, I managed to make something ok-looking! And the Distress Oxide did not leave any chemical scent lingering in the air either much to my office-bound delight. Disclaimer: digital emoji sticker added for recipient's privacy. My heartfelt apologies to all the wonderful cardmakers on here. Judge away!

That's brilliant. I'm not a stamper but I want to try Distress Oxide, they look like even I could use them

That's a fantastic card!!
Your description of what he brought you made me think of the cooking contest show (Chopped?) where each of the contestants is given a basket of random ingredients and has to make a gourmet meal out of it. "You have squash, venison, jellybeans, and chili sauce. Go!"

Aww, thanks fellow scrappers! You're making me blush the shade of Worn Lipstick... purplebee craftymom101 JaneB The Oxide inks are so much fun and so easy to use! Dreamy backgrounds without quite knowing what you're doing (I love stamping but I'm not good at it, let's be honest here) and whether it'll work it (spoiler: it always does). @zingermack Great choice of words: the gift the card was meant for contained several items from Lush! LavenderLayoutLady Haha, spot on! Wacky ingredients galore. Just goes to show you can make anything work. *hums* You gotta have faith-faith-faith-ah!

Over here the cooking show where they are given a bag of ingredients is (not sure if it's till around in some form) Ready, Steady, Cook! I wonder if I'm allowed an anniversary present next week? But then, he might want an anniversary present too....

It looks great! What paper did you ink on? I have a bottle of that gold color shine in my giveaway box. Maybe I need to try it again. Thanks for the inspiration!

I wonder if I'm allowed an anniversary present next week? But then, he might want an anniversary present too.... If you ask for an anniversary present you can actually make an anniversary present with, the ecosystem of anniversary presents is complete. Just sayin'... It looks great! What paper did you ink on? I have a bottle of that gold color shine in my giveaway box. Maybe I need to try it again. Thanks for the inspiration! I inked on a piece of cold pressed Fontaine watercolour paper (100% cotton) by Clairefontaine. Two tips to make the gold Color Shine a nice product to work with: - loads of shaking, like quick arm-workout shaking (I probably shake a new or barely used bottle for a good minute and half) - fold a paper towel and use the corner to do some soaking up, especially on the bigger drops (the micro drops will be just fine) because the gold colour leaves a bit of an oily ring when it dries up otherwise (the other Color Shine colours don't seem to do this) It's a lovely product once you get the hang of it. FurryP Big pets are always cute and much appreciated on any crafty project. "You'll always be my lil kitty!" "Who's the 6-year old puppy? Yes, you are!"

sleepingbooty Thanks so much for the tips! I hope you don't mind one more question. I found that the gold Color Shine rubbed off, no matter what kind of paper I used (doilies, cardstock, any kind of paper). Have you noticed that?

I found that the gold Color Shine rubbed off, no matter what kind of paper I used (doilies, cardstock, any kind of paper). Have you noticed that? Oh no, I haven't noticed any rubbing off with the gold Color Shine here. At all! I've just double-checked: no rubbing off at all on a project from a last year and one from a few days ago. I use my gold Color Shine to get droplets (I don't actually spray it) and always soak up some of the residue immediately after sprinkling drops over part of the layout/card. I also don't put droplets on top of my actual photos (it might rub off on photo paper, I wouldn't know). I'm happy to give a piece of cardstock a proper spray if you're interested! You might have a bad batch of Color Shine or not shake it enough... Not sure.
