NY Times Article
Some new details emerged about Mr. Urbanski’s life, and about the Facebook group of which he was a member. The group’s public profile was inaccessible on Monday. Screenshots showed that its members had earlier trafficked in anti-black and sexist memes. But Alex Goodman, 19, an administrator of the group, said it had been started a few months ago as satire and was in fact partly intended to make fun of the so-called alt-right. “Nothing is meant as true; we follow none of the beliefs,” Mr. Goodman, who described himself as pagan, said. “None of us believe in that philosophy. I condemn those who believe in white supremacy.” Matthew Lamb, 26, who said he had founded the Facebook group, said he and his friends had “spent two days trying to come up with a funny name,” adding: “I don’t care if it’s offensive. It’s supposed to be offensive.” “But oh God, no,” he said. “It’s not white supremacist or a Nazi group, and I’m not a white supremacist.”

I have had not one, but two different conversations with people this week about neo-nazi incidents at their high schools. One in suburban NY, one in suburban DC, in upper-middle-class well-educated areas.
Something has been unleashed.

One in suburban NY, one in suburban DC, in upper-middle-class well-educated areas. Something has been unleashed. I've noticed an increase in hate crimes both from personal accounts of friends and family and ones being reported by the media. I hope the two incidents in NY and DC were both non violent. I did hear that American University recently had some "activity" but it was hate speech and bananas hanging from trees. I believe in response to American finally having an African American class president.

It's just awful!
It's my alma mater and my daughter goes there. I just moved my daughter out on Friday as it was the last day of finals. She lives in Montgomery Hall, the dorm right where it happened. We finished moving her out just 6 hrs. before the stabbing. It's sad seeing her dorm in the background on the news as such a tragic event happened right there.
We live in Pgh., but it's on all the news here too.

Such a sad story. It sounds like Richard Collins had a bright future ahead of him. I just can't imagine what his friends and family are going through.

How awful! The victim, Richard Collins, sounds like he was a wonderful guy who had a great future ahead of him. I find this very hard to believe. Have a look at other Facebook groups with the same or similar names, including this one with an almost identical name: Alt Reich Nation.
Even if it is true, it sounds like some of their members didn't realise it was "making fun of the alt right" if they've been posting anti-black memes. I will be very interested to hear more about this incident.

my long reply just disappeared.
I'm heartsick and disgusted by what this country has come to. This white woman is sending lots of love to all of the black people in our country who have suffered innumerable indignities and prejudice and hate, and to those who love them. I'm so very sorry that the life of this wonderful young man was taken in this manner, that he didn't have a chance to live a full life. If he had been a "gang kid" I probably would not have heard about his killing, but I'd be saying the same thing. Each and every one of us deserves to live, to experience true justice and freedom.

The murderer went to high school with my niece. The high school is literally in my backyard and where my son goes. His younger brother is graduating this Friday from high school.
What has made me sick is that people around here are not totally defending the killing but getting upset that so many are pointing out that it was a hate crime and that these incidents have been ramping up since January. It makes me sick. I called a council member today and left a message saying that they need to speak out against this. But I am sure that particular council member WONT do anything considering he was a member of a white supremacist group up until 2014.
I am so sad about the loss of Mr. Collins and so upset that people around here are not able to see that we have horrible race relations in this area that have been getting worse since January.

My daughter got her campus alert and immediately we guessed it was likely a hate crime. She also said a noose was found at one of the frats in their off campus house. You are so right about the race relations in the area getting worse. So sad! What my daughter loves about Univ. of Maryland is the diversity. She doesn't have that at all where we live outside of Pgh. I thought an article said that Bowie State's graduation took place at Xfinity Center. How hard it must have been for his dad to be back on the campus where his son was murdered.

I am so sad about the loss of Mr. Collins and so upset that people around here are not able to see that we have horrible race relations in this area that have been getting worse since January. My first home was in that school district. I've seen actual defense of the killings. An Anne Arundel police employee who was a classmate of the killers posted in the comments section: A photo of a Maryland crab with the words "Fuck with crabo you get stabo". This was in response to another 2012 classmate who said "Fuck yeah Sean!!! This is what happens with niggers try and get frosty with an OG." Maryland's own governor called Lt. Richard Collins III "the young man from Bowie State" in a public statement on Facebook. He later retracted and deleted all the comments asking why he said the killers name but not the victims. All of these men are comfortable being interviewed and using their full names. I'll be calling Chief Timonty Altomare today and asking why just a suspension. My google skills show this fuck can't pass the police academy tests so they've given him a desk job while he just continues to fail again and again. I'm guessing nepotism is at play here. Or maybe this is the type of cop they are grooming over in Anne Arundel County. Its all disheartening and very sad.
