Hi everyone,
I'm making my daughter a scrapbook with a fire theme. Each double page layout will have a lyric from Alicia Keys “Girl on Fire” song. Originally I bought some 12 x 12 pages that had flames all over them for the “this girl is on fire” lyrics with alternating red orange and yellow distressed 12 x 12 pages in between but the flame pages are just too busy with a bunch of pictures on the pages. So I bought some distressed black pages to use instead of the all flame pages with the idea of putting a few flames on the page or run along the bottom, but now I’m not sure what to use for flames. I thought red orange and yellow vellum, but cannot find anything but red vellum. Then I thought yellow cardstock flames cut out with red ink on the edges but I can’t find a decent svg file to use. I’m running out of time to get this done so don’t want anything too time consuming. Any ideas?

If you have Tim Holtz oxide inks, it will show up on black cs.
Also there are some opaque sprays that will work as well. Or paints. You can get little bottles of Dina Wakely or Vicky Boutin paints that would show up great on the black. Or Nuvo drops work well for painting, as well.

I don't think you necessarily need to be very strict with the fire and flame theme. I'd use a flame paper for the final layout to make the ending pop and make sure I use some higher contrast settings for the picture (which I would probably turn black and white). There's also the possibility of toning down the flame pattern paper with a sheet of white vellum, the easiest trick in the book to make a bright or busy paper work. How about using it in the back of a torn-apart layout like this one made by Irit Landgraf? Instead of white cardstock, you'd have a column of flames going up but your picture to the side would benefit from the less harsh background you're framing the flame paper wih (like the distressed black you mentioned). And what about using some of the flamer paper as accents such as the second mat of the photos if you're matting multiple times. You can also rip the upper side of the flame paper mats off instead of having a straight line cut to give it a subtle flames-going-up effect. I scrap from a small stash of goods and tools so I'll be of little help when it comes to finding cut files. But I'm sure other (and more experienced) scrappers will come to your rescue on here! It's a wonderful project which I'm sure your daughter will love. Don't panic! You can go many ways with the theme and the products you have. Everything doesn't need to be 100% literal in its representation.

Oh, and can you cut the word "FIRE" from the flame pp?

Here's a page I made. I just cut out the word FIRE with my Cricut and then put the photos behind. Untitled by Jacqueline Bruce, on Flickr Also, if you check for firefighter stickers or cut files they often have flames. I used a flames sticker on this layout. I can't remember if I got it at a LSS or the Dollar Store. The paper is Heidi Swapp minc paper that I foiled. The pattern reminded me of flames. LOAD28 by Jacqueline Bruce, on Flickr

I would definitely still use some pieces of those flame papers. Maybe a block as part of an embellishment cluster. Also, think in terms of coordinated colors. Get enamel dots, arrows, etc in the same colors to go with the flame stuff. Plus black, because it will match. I found this Fire 12x12 paper at scrapyourtrip.com
