I prefer to stand but I go along with whatever the majority of the crowd does. I guess I'm a follower.

I hate the standing trend and basically have stopped going to a lot of concerts because of it. I think it's rude. We actually walked out of one because of the people in front of us wouldn't sit down. Trend? It was normal to stand during a concert when I was going to them over 30 years ago.

Everyone pays for their own space. If visibility at a concert, with the known potential of those in front standing, be prepared to deal or pay second market for front row. It isn't like in large venues you can see so much more than the large video screens anyway in my mind.
And the expectation of a 3/4 year old sitting and being able to see in a large venue, is ridiculous. Even WHEN people are all sitting.

The other one was about a year ago. Everyone was sitting, even in the mosh pit for crying out loud! And this was one of Australia's biggest rock bands from the 70s and 80s. When their best known song came on everyone stood up, but gradually one by one they sat down again, until I was the only one standing. Argh. BORING! Now you've got me wondering who the band was! Cold Chisel - Khe Sanh!

I hate the standing. I won't call it a trend because it's been going on forever. But I pay to see and hear the band in person, not the audience. Apparently the majority pays to sing their songs to them. And it is true that most groups encourage the behavior. I accept that this is just the way it is, so I find other things to spend my money on that I can enjoy and not get frustrated with. I would NEVER ask someone to sit down though, that's ridiculous.

I don't mind standing at concerts. I took DD to see One Direction in Dallas last night and stood during the entire concert. We had floor seats on an aisle. Security was very strict about keeping people out of the aisles and not letting people from the back come forward to be closer to the stage. I saw several moms yelling and screaming at security because their little precious wasn't allowed to stand in the aisle so they could see. If you have a small child, don't buy a floor seat.
My concert pet peeve is the people who hold up posters and signs during the concert. If you are more than 10 feet from the stage, chances are the artist cannot see your stupid sign. Luckily, there weren't any in front of us.

I'm actually kind of glad to see how many other people have been asked to sit down. The last concert I went to was Billy Joel back in the 90's. Everyone was standing but the people behind me. Instead of asking me nicely if I could sit, they told me I was so fat they couldn't see around me. So, I ended up sitting for the rest of the concert, feeling like a cow, and couldn't see a thing!
That was the last concert I've been willing to pay for, I've gone to a few $5 concerts at our local venue on throwback night, but I will probably never shell out big bucks for one out of fear that something like that might happen again. (Although I was quite fat then, I am not now, so it wouldn't be the reason they give.)
Rude people suck.

The group determines whether you stand or sit. If everybody is standing, you stand. If everybody is sitting, you sit. I have a form of rheumatoid arthritis in my back and hips that makes standing hard for me. But you know what? If I'm at a concert, I stand if everybody else is standing. If I need to sit for a bit to rest my back then I sit. I would never dream of asking the people in front of me to sit so I could see. That is just not appropriate concert etiquette. =)
