Last night I was opening a bottle and for some reason, the cork went down into the bottle rather than getting pulled out by the corkscrew. Red wine all over me, the kitchen, etc. It's just a cotton tee shirt but it was comfortable and looked good on me. Quickly googled and found all kinds of stain removal tips. Here's what I've tried: salt, salt with boiling water poured over it, a concoction of various stain removers, washed the shirt in regular detergent on warm/cold but did not dry. I'm left with a gazillion grayish spots. Today I poured a bunch of hydrogen peroxide over the spots. Waiting.
Does anyone have a tried and true red wine stain remover tip?
***I'm happy to report that tonight I happened to check the shirt and the hydrogen peroxide I dumped on all the spots in a final act of desperation yesterday worked!!! All the gray spots are gone. Thanks for all the advice.

Salt ASAP, let it sit, and cold water. In my experience warm water sets stains for good.

Soda water, straight away, onto the stain. I am afraid that using the hot water on it has probably 'set' the stain, and it will be near to impossible to remove.

Wine Away works pretty well. You can also soak in oxyclean.

I agree with the others, hot/warm water sets the stain. The salt one works too. I think it's too late to rescue your shirt though even with bleach.
I've spilt some red wine on a light coloured carpet once and my friend, who was here at the time, immediately grabbed the white wine bottle and poured it over the stain, miracle of miracles it worked, it completely neutralized the red colour.

In the past I've used white wine and soda water. Keep trying with the salt etc but it might a,ready be set.

So sorry about the stain i am going against the advice you've received so far. I use boiling water alone. My husband is a Deacon in the Episcopal Church, and I've had quite a few red wine stains to deal with over the years. The tip about boiling water comes from the Altar Guild. I was hesitant the first try, but have been successful with getting it out of cotton/poly blend alb and cotton twist rope belt.
Good luck.

I second the boiling hot water idea, but the trick is that you have to pour the boiling water on the stain from a height of 2 feet. Works like magic!

I second oxyclean. Had a spillage disaster on a rug and sofa and it came out. All of it.

I used the blue dawn and hydrogen peroxide on a white shirt to remove a set in red wine stain, it took a few applications but it worked like a charm. (Mix the dawn and peroxide together, apply to the spot, let it sit, did it two or three times, then wash.) My husband also used sparkling water on another stain when it immediately happened to another pair of shorts, and that worked great too.

find an "H20 at home" representative and get a Netepur Bar. This thing takes out everything

I've removed old, set-in red wine stains with a mixture of peroxide and Dawn dish soap. Just a few drops of soap in a quarter cup or so of peroxide.

Soak shirt in water 24-248 hours, lay damp shirt in sunshine, it may bleach out the stains. We use this quite often with heirloom clothing

I'm glad you got the stains out! I was going to suggest Wine Away--it got red wine stains out of my ivory carpet AFTER a 'professional' carpet cleaner had just managed to turn them from red to grey--no scrubbing required from me, either! I've also used it to get red wine stains off my dh's white golf shirt. And it smells good, too!
