Lately when I've used my white ink & clear powder I've found my images to be patchy for lack of a better word. The white isn't showing thru in all spots, the lines aren't thick & the embossing isn't as raised or shiny as I would like.
I think my ink pad is juicy enough, so I'm wondering if it's the embossing powder. Do they get old?
Any ideas what the problem might be?

The first thing that came to mind.
Are you using Pigment Ink? Dye ink dries to quickly to apply the powder.
I usually use VersaMark and colored embossing powder. Not that that should make a difference, but VersaMark IMO is the best.
I'm using really old embossing powder, stuff I got at a yard sale. I don't think it goes bad.

I have some super old embossing powder and it's still ok, so I don't think it's that.
I agree with the previous poster that you will get better/clearer/crisper results if you use versamark or an embossing pad and white powder if you want a white image.

It sounds like you're not getting a full impression of the stamp on paper -- or, in other words, not enough ink is getting from the stamp onto your paper. Maybe your inkpad isn't fresh enough, or maybe you aren't pressing enough/all over the stamp.
I agree with the above posters, embossing powder doesn't go bad.

Is it White "Zing" by any chance? I have the hardest time getting good coverage with the that one. I don't know what it is, other than maybe some universal defect in it. Every other Zing color I have is perfect, but now matter what ink or stamp I try it with it's rough and patchy looking with the white. It looks half melted in some places, or still grainy.

If the pad is old the ink can seem juicy but it may be that the color isn't mixing all the way through the pad. I'd just get a new one. You might want to try the brands the above posters have recommended. I've had good results with VersaMark as well.

Yep another recommendation to use versa mark and white embossing powder. I've had good results with Filigree powder from Stewart Superior. I have the hardest time with some of the Zing colours.

Do you ladies all use a heat embossing tool? I use a blow dryer and was wondering if that's OK, or if a special heat embossing tool is really superior?

Thanks Iriscristata! Yes, the blow dryer does blow the powder everywhere:( Guess it is time to get a real heat embossing tool, thanks for the info.

Thanx ladies! It probably is my ink pad. Off the top of my head, I don't know who makes it and it is pigment as opposed to dye, but it is old. Time for a new one. I will also confess that I'm stingy - I figured it was cheaper to buy lots of colored ink pads (which I would use for regular stamping too) and clear embossing powder than lots of colored embossing powders. Guess I'll be picking up some white embossing powder, too. My VersaMark is pretty old, too. Looks like I'll be adding those to my shopping list. FWIW, my embossing powder is Stampin' Up. I will avoid Zing - thanx for the tip! And yes ambers, a heat embossing tool makes a lot of difference. Use a coupon and get yourself one.
