Sooo wrong and heartbreaking. I just read this from the mom of one of the men who died while trying to do the right thing:

I can't see it stopping in the near future. The actions of these horrible people have been given legitimacy and it's just not going to stop while psycho is in power. That sickens me.

It's upsetting and frightening. I know for a fact my son would have done exactly what those young men did, and lost their life for it. And if I were Muslim, or could even be mistaken for Muslim, I'd be terrified about being attacked by some racist jerk. I honestly feel as if we are experiencing a civil war in this country and it is not being addressed.

It's upsetting and frightening. I know for a fact my son would have done exactly what those young men did, and lost their life for it. And if I were Muslim, or could even be mistaken for Muslim, I'd be terrified about being attacked by some racist jerk. I honestly feel as if we are experiencing a civil war in this country and it is not being addressed. It's not only not being addressed ... it's being exacerbated and encouraged by the wingnut in the White House and his people.  |

I am heartbroken that this happened anywhere, and absolutely gutted that it happened in my beloved Portland.
My fear is that this will make people less likely to step up and defend those being attacked.

We were just listening to CNN in the car and one of the talking heads was saying that they are going to set up a War Room in the White House to strategize and address the criticism of this administration and the Russia stories coming out. I commented that I never thought I'd live to see a White House set up a war room with the American People as the enemy they are warring against. How in the world did we get here? And why are some people still allowing/applauding this? |

That is heartbreaking. I read about it yesterday but at that stage I could only find the story on Occupy Democrats and some other resistance page, so I wasn't sure whether it had actually happened or not.

It is awful and depressing. Those men were doing the right thing by stepping up to protect others. It is horrifying that their act of goodwill and kindness got them killed.
I hope that law enforcement at all levels begins to take the threat of native white supremacy more seriously. I'm pretty sick of it being treated like some sort of twee, retro curiosity.

So sad! We haven't been home much the past few days, so haven't had the news on and hadn't heard the story.
There was a stabbing on my daughter's college campus a week ago. A white student murdered an African American from another college just 3 days before his graduation. The stabbing was right in front of my daughters dorm. We moved her out 6 hrs. before the young man was murdered. The suspect was white and the victim African American. The FBI is investigating it as a hate crime. As soon as my daughter read the campus alert, we assumed it was a hate crime. The suspect was a member of a facebook group for Alt-Reich.

We have always taught our daughters to do the right thing and step up to help other men and women that need help. But yes, I bet people will be hesitant when they see things like this happen. the southern poverty law center I believe is the leader in tracking white hate groups.. the feds used to do more... but not any more.. such tragedies... they gave their lives for others... the highest gift to our country.
