linkPer the Washington Post trump is going after civil rights protection. From the article "trump administration plans to minimize civil rights efforts in agencies." "As outlined in Labor’s fiscal 2018 plan, the move would fold the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, now home to 600 employees, into another government agency in the name of cost-cutting. The proposal to dismantle the compliance office comes at a time when the Trump administration is reducing the role of the federal government in fighting discrimination and protecting minorities by cutting budgets, dissolving programs and appointing officials unsympathetic to previous practices. The new leadership at the Environmental Protection Agency, for instance, has proposed eliminating its environmental justice program, which addresses pollution that poses health threats specifically concentrated in minority communities. The program, in part, offers money and technical help to residents who are confronted with local hazards such as leaking oil tanks or emissions from chemical plants. Under President Trump’s proposed budget, the Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights — which has investigated thousands of complaints of discrimination in school districts across the country and set new standards for how colleges should respond to allegations of sexual assault and harassment — would also see significant staffing cuts. Administration officials acknowledge in budget documents that the civil rights office will have to scale back the number of investigations it conducts and limit travel to school districts to carry out its work. And the administration has reversed several steps taken under President Barack Obama to address LGBT concerns. The Department of Housing and Urban Development, for example, has revoked a rule ensuring that transgender people can stay at sex-segregated shelters of their choice, and the Department of Health and Human Services has removed a question about sexual orientation from two surveys of elderly Americans about services offered or funded by the government." It just gets depressing when you read this crap. This battle has been fought and won and thanks to trump and his band of wreckers the battle has to be fought again. I'm beginning to understand why people practice "motivated ignorance".

Right, it all comes down to money. trump needs to cut as much as he can from the budget so he can give big tax cuts. These types of programs mean nothing to trump so get rid of them. Doesn't matter how many people they help.

In any way. Prior Republican administration policies are as at risk as Democratic policies. The man is just wacko

Once the republicans turned to the God party, I started turning away from them. Trump is not any type of Republican. I know he was elected as a Republican, but even most the republicans in Congress think he is a fucking loon. T

At this point he is not just trying to make rich guys richer, he is actively trying to hurt those whom he doesn't find important.
How is the next president going to be able to fix all this? What took years to build is being torn asunder in a matter of days, it seems.

It does not matter what rights he goes after, until he goes after the 2nd amendment his supporters will continue to support him.
Going after reporters and the free press? Just making America great again. Never mind that it's part of the same amendment that allows for freedom of religion - we all know that it's only one religion that should be practiced (and it needs to be the correct flavor of that religion), the others are just perversions. So maybe that amendment isn't really necessary after all. And peaceable assembly, redress of grievances? Nope, those are all paid protestors who are butthurt because their candidate lost the election. They shouldn't be allowed to do that.
Even the 2nd amendment might be a bit malleable, depending upon how it's sold. Sure, you can have a gun. Have a bunch of guns. But if you're brown, black, or the wrong religion? We might need to do a little bit deeper background check on you, if you know what I mean. And don't even think about open carrying if you're any of those things - you're probably a threat and we'll need to keep people from panicking or taking things into their own hands. So Bubba from the trailer park wearing a MAGA hat is free to roam the dangerous aisles of Wal-Mart while openly carrying his AR-15, but Malik or Mohammed who has to drive through a rough part of town on his way to work will need to be dealt with.
But hey, Hillary had emails. And Benghazi! When you balance the constitutional rights and traditions against those things, it's obvious that the Trump way is the only sensible way.

It IS depressing. He just seems to basically want to undo every damn thing Obama did. Exactly he is. That's why he ran in the first place. Obama made a joke about him so he has to get back at him. Take away everything Obama did, erases him (in Trump's sick and tiny brain) and gets back at him for daring to make fun of Trump. Who cares that it could ruin the entire country as long as Trump gets his revenge. It's the same reason Trump tweets about SNL and how terrible it has become.

He causes hate, oppression and an alternate reality.

Read something over the weekend that said he has a clear contempt for American institutions, and at this point, it's starting to look like he just despises America. I have to say, 6 months ago, I wouldn't have believed we would be where we are today. I knew he was despicable, but I didn't imagine this. I've had a year to loathe him, and I've been clear headed about it - it's got to be hard for people who really believed he would MAGA. We were already great - I hope it's not past tense. Nate Silver says his base is actually shrinking fast and though I'm not a Silver fan necessarily, I hope he's right. At this point, we have to allow that some of the rabid support is planted and overblown; I do think sane people are concerned.

I just can't fathom such a hate for people that you would destroy, Godzilla style, those efforts put in place to actually make and keep America (and the world) great.
I'm getting close though because with every wrongheaded and evil move this administration makes, I'm discovering I have a capacity to hate that I thought was reserved for the real bad hombres of this world. You know, like Hitler, Bin Laden, pedophiles, rapists, murderers, Putin, etc. It's scary because I feel for the most part that I am a loving, peaceful person and the darkness that Trump has wrought is changing the fiber of our nation.

Oh, and in addition to Civil Rights, he also wants to unravel our new relationship with Cuba. It feels like every single thing I care about in this country is being attacked. GOP even complained about duck ramps at the capitol - it's the meanest, most vulgar administration ever. Putin's cheeks must hurt from smiling. It feels like terrorism lite - I feel pretty fearful and miserable, anyway.
