If you're looking to upgrade your wireless, and you use Verizon, now is the time. Until the end of August the phones are half price. And until I believe the end of September, you get an extra gig of data per phone line each month. You may also be offered a free tablet. I'm not sure how long that offer runs for and what qualifies you but we got it. It's $10 per month to use the tablet. We went in the other day to upgrade 3 phones and buy another. We didn't do it until today but in the meantime we got an email offering a free iPhone 5c for each upgrade. So we got 3 free phones, a free tablet and purchased one phone. And get 14 gigs of data each month. We were really happy about the data because we hated giving up unlimited data. So in case someone else is in the same boat, it might be worth looking into. This is our first time as an ifamily, so any tips would be appreciated. the kids have iPods and are trying to teach these old dogs some new tricks.

I'm patiently waiting for the new iPhone.... Me too! I'm on an iPhone 4 that has unlimited data. Well the throttling of data is like being on AOL dial up and my home button only works sporadically! Come on September 19th.

Make a family calendar that syncs to the iCloud and alerts everyone when an event is added. Syncs to all our devices, phones, computers, iPads.

DH and I are going to get new iPhones too! We're lumbering along on the 4 now. They're fine, but the new ones will be great!

DD and I both had Straight Talk phones. DD had been wanting a Samsung Galaxy from Straight Talk. They only had the Galaxy 3 and it was $299.99. A new phone for me would have been $99, I just wanted a new phone. We looked up phones and plans on Verizon. DD go a new Samsung Galaxy 5S for $99.99 and I got an Iphone 5C for $49.99. We both chose single plans that came with 2 gigs of data each month for $60.00 Not sure what he exact total will be after taxes, but we are pleased. We each paid $55 a month for Straight Talk and Verizon will be just a bit more.

I have been with Verizon for four years. I also got the free iphone for ds. But the rest of us don't have iphones.
My tablet was free and the plan is $10/mo. Wonderful! The last time I went in, they tried to give me another tablet for the same price! It was tempting, but I resisted.
The data still seems expensive, but trying to deal with it.

Hmmmm, I"ll have to check this out because I went in to Verizon the other day to get a new phone because my current phone is acting up and they told me that to get a phone comparable to my current one that it would cost me $499 because I was not eligible for an upgrade until Sept. 14th........

We're still grandfathered in on the unlimited data plans. Now that Verizon has announced that they're going to start throttling people with unlimited plans, we're not sure what we want to do. My iPhone still runs perfectly but DH's phone acts like it's possessed.
Thanks for the info!

My iPhone still runs perfectly but DH's phone acts like it's possessed. Thanks for the info! My cousin had unlimited data and got a new phone at the end of June. They automatically gave her 6 gb of data since she had unlimited data. My sister had unlimited data and got a new phone last October. They downgraded her to 2 gb. When she found out that my cousin got 6 gb of data and she didn't, she called Verizon. They told her that if she would have complained back in October, they would have given her the 6 gb. My cousin didn't say anything about losing unlimited data but they still went ahead and gave her the 6 gb.

Thanks for the info. I have some family with Verizon and I'll let them know. Those are some good deals!
As for the unlimited data, my fiancé has managed to hold on to his. One of his "tricks" makes use of the other lines on the account. I believe some of them don't have the unlimited data anymore, so somehow they finagle the other lines and upgrades so that he gets them still at the promotional price. If anyone really wants to know the specifics, I can ask him. Also, he does trade/buy up on craigslist. Though it might seem like a pain, he has had basically all good results from it. They just go to the Verizon store and they check the serial or whatever the equivalent is and all that at the store.

Thanks! I have no concept of iCloud. Does the stock calendar app automatically offer the option to sync? Do you - anyone - prefer a different calendar?

Yeah if you're not eligible I think you're probably stuck. We were out of contract for a few months already. Good luck!

We've tried other calendars, but the one that works best with Apple products is their own. Create a calendar. Click on the little i in a circle and then share it with the rest. Give them options to "view and edit" so they can add things. You can make other calendars that allow them to view but not edit. It just depends what you want. You can create as many as you want. We don't share the work calendars between each other and only add work events if they go over the time of a normal work day. I don't want to see all my husband's appointments and he doesn't want to see mine but if he has a late meeting I want to know about that. And vice versa.

Dang! Wish I'd known last month, but mine was dying, I couldn't hold out any longer. They did upgrade me from 6 gb to 10 gb for the same package price, so that was good.

Thanks I'll look into it. I HATE the Apple calendar. It's great on my laptop and iPad but sucks on the phone. So I use Calendars5....it syncs to the Apple one so if I am on my laptop I can add/delete and it will change on the phone too. Maybe with the bigger iPhone I will like iCal.

I might need to look into this. My phone is eligible and I really need a new one. It's a 4 and still has like IOS 5 on it. I can't get many new apps.
I too am on unlimited data. What is this they are going to throttle those of us with this mean?
