That is cool. When we lived in Seattle, DH loved to poke through the Boeing surplus store. We always joked about collecting enough parts to build our own plane.

How funny, only a couple of days ago I read about a guy in Cambodia using YouTube videos to build his own plane. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-39945650Good luck to your husband, hope it all goes to plan and that he enjoys his creation.

My uncle spent years and years building his own plane. The look on his face when he flew it was unbelievable.

That's impressive. There is no way in hell I'd fly in a homemade airplane though. I'm such a chicken!

Oh my, that is awesome! There is nothing better in the world than building something from scratch. I am impressed.

And since its an aerobatic plane I've agreed to do a roll. Once. We also plan to fly all over the place once its done and the test flights are done.

It's not everyday you *know* someone who is building their own plane. That's really interesting.

That is so cool!!! I am always curious...where can you take the plane? How does that work with the FAA? Can you go to the Caribbean (after refuel)?
We live on a lake and someone has a water plane....I always wonder where he takes it!!

We live on a lake and someone has a water plane....I always wonder where he takes it!! You can fly anywhere (with stops for refueling). From SoCal we can go to San Francisco for the day. Its about 90 minutes. My husband has big plans and has mentioned the Carribbean. We can fly into any airport in the US. its registered already with the FAA. You have to choose a tail number when you start building.

When you said "roll", I was thinking of those ladies who used to do tricks on planes. I've seen it only on TV. They would do all sorts of tricks on the wings of planes. They would roll over on the wings and bounce back up. I couldn't do that on a trampoline, much less a moving plane! I'm so impressed with his plane. Please keep us updated with pictures! I will not be a wing-walker like a young Agnes Skinner on the Simpsons!

Very, very cool and I am so impressed! It looks incredible and I love hearing stories of adventurous people like you and your DH! Please show us photos and let us know when he finishes it.
My father built his own sailboat from scratch in the backyard almost 30 years ago. It was small of course, 12 feet, but it got us started on years of sailing adventures. We both live in Annapolis now and sail whenever we get the chance (which hasn't been a lot lately-he's so busy still working).
