I think he looks cute either way, but Buddy loves his new haircut. He is running around like a little puppy. Before: After ...

He's adorable and it has to feel good. I used to shave my golden down regularly.

We live in SC and shave our Golden mix, Dallas, every few months. He is so much more comfortable without all that hair.

Lovely before and after shots. Buddy looks smashing with his new haircut. Like his collar, and his friend is cute.

He's adorable either way. It's nice to do an occasional full shave like that, isn't it? I had a really close cut done on my pup for summertime last year, but not too short because I was afraid he would sunburn. He is white with really pinkish skin and I'm sure he would sizzle and burn with too much exposure. It was nice not to worry about snarls and knots in his fur for a few weeks since it was so short. He's so fluffy and cuddly, but he is also a very active, fun loving dog when out for a run. He dives into tall grass and through any shrubbery, picking up all kinds of leaves, sticks, and mud. No ticks yet, thank goodness! Do you have ticks in your area? I would think his new short cut would make watching for ticks much easier than a full coat.
ETA: I love his tie!

I've never used a groomer before, we have a golden mix whose hair is just beginning to grow. Would you ask for a shave or is their a special golden cut? He looks really cute.

I just asked them to shave him down, his ears were really bothering him. Cute as can be but they were always itchy and I had to brush them a few times a day or they would get tangles. The groomer just went over the lengths, they did a really good job

He is adorable! I had Stella shaved once and it was the most horrific experience for us and her. Your groomer did a great job!

I cut the hair off my cat yesterday and an waiting for a hand trimmer to finish him up. He is a big fluffy orange ball of hair and fur.
He looks like a mangy lion now.

Cutie patootie We take our Lucy to be groomed every summer too ... she is what we think is a Chow/Golden Retriever so has quite long hair and swims in the river every day which means she's smelly

When we had our two goldens, some summers we did have them shaved (we live in HOT New Orleans) and other summers we did not. I have an adorable pic of one when he came from the groomer truck - he gave me the stink eye. I'll go look for it. We thought it would cut down on the golden tumbleweeds (the hair inside the house) but it didn't. Love your pictures and I also love the tie.

That's a great idea - must be easier for him and for you! We used to do that with the pekingese in the summer. Just too darned much fur for all of us to deal with!

What a cutie! Our favorite part of getting our pup groomed/cut is that she is extra snuggle in bed at night until she acclimates to the shorter hair.

One groomer here told me that she doesn't shave goldens because it ruins the natural line of their fur..whatever THAT means?! Ours is purebred though so maybe it's that?
My friend's dd just finished Animal care and vet assistant programs and said she would shave our girl down this summer. Her hair is sooo thick and it goes everywhere. She pants like crazy at night because she is so hot.
Your guy is adorable and it convinced me to go for it!

Actually your groomer is correct, they have a double coat. They can be trimmed but they shouldn't be shaved.

I brushed her undercoat te other day. Could have made two new dogs from it lol! Thanks for letting me know.
