I gave up Mountain Dew! There, I said it. I was a HUGE Mountain Dew fan. Was.
Sometime in the last year or so, I started drinking it, and I couldn't stop. I'd always been a soda drinker, but stopped cold turkey when I lost so much weight several years ago. My other eating habits are good, so I allowed myself that vice, and even though I knew it was bad for me, I buried my head in the sand and went for it.
I was always so embarrassed, though, and I never ordered it out or had it when others could see me. I even found myself keeping boxes of it in my basement so I would always have some on hand, but out of sight. Ridiculous, right?
Well, I finally realized what an addiction it had become, and how bad for me it was. I made myself stop buying it at the grocery store each week and made sure I had a jug of sweet tea on hand at all times to soften the blow, then I slowly started making the tea with less and less sugar. I have a full water bottle with me at all times, ice cold, and still have semi-sweet tea, but I haven't had a Mountain Dew for at least 6 weeks now. I'm so proud of myself, so I just had to share!! Also, this post will help me be accountable and hopefully not slip back.

I'm proud of you also. Bet your physician will join the cheering.
I love Mountain Dew, but might drink it once every 6 months. We have pretty much kicked all carbonated drinks out of our life.

Good for you.
I was a Coca Cola addict, I stopped beginning of September. Haven't had one since. Due to a vending machine error trying to get water on a recent trip I got a bottle of Coke. Being desperate I tried to drink it. Did about three swallows and left the rest wondering how did I ever drink this.

Good for you! It's hard to kick a deeply ingrained habit. I have dramatically cut back on sugar over the years, and at first it was really difficult. But with time it got much easier, as I'm sure that it has for you.

I'm slowly but surely drinking less and less Coke. I'll probably never give it up completely as there's nothing quite like a Coke and pizza. But no more 44oz from the gas station. No 20oz bottles. No 12oz cans. Just the mini cans and only one a day if that.
It's a hard habit to break! Keep it up!

congrats to you. I have given up Coke Zero for the last time. I cannot drink just one a day, so now I have my Yeti cup of unsweet tea and call it a day.

Good for you! You should be proud. It's a hard one to kick.
I am about to give up my one daily Diet Mountain Dew myself, as soon as the case I have is gone. It's going to be hard. I love soda like other people love chocolate (although I love chocolate like other people love chocolate too).

That's a very big deal! There is so much caffeine in it I think it would be hard to kick it cold turkey. Good for you!

Good for you! Between the sugar (insulin 😉), the caffiene and the chemicals your body will thank you.

There's something about the combination of sweet and fizzy that makes carbonated drinks especially tempting for me. Way to go!

I used to drink one or two 2 liter bottles of diet soda a day. I gave it up cold turkey years ago. Now I drink water and soda doesn't even taste good to me and it doesn't quinch my thirst. Congrats! It is not easy to give up but is so worth it.

That is awesome!! Good for you!
I gave up drinking all carbonated drinks on Dec 1st of last year - I had a diet Coke or diet Dr. Pepper once or twice a day before that.
I haven't regretted it one bit!
Congrats on your success!!

OMG that's awesome! It's..huge! Getting off all those chemicals and sugar, your body will reward you for not poisoning it anymore! Whaaaahoooo! Curious - just what are the benefits supposed to be? I've read weight loss, fewer headaches, not the sugar rush crash, I've been disappointed I've not experienced these with cutting all pop. Wondering what benefits I may be overlooking? The biggest for me personally was the caffeine isn't great for my heart Arrythmia.

The biggest for me personally was the caffeine isn't great for my heart Arrythmia. I can't recall if you are posting on the Obesity Factor thread or not. But artificial sweeteners spike your insulin levels just the same as regular white sugar. Dr Fung stresses it a lot in both books I read. I've weaned myself off of it and feel amazing. I was never a diet soda drinker but I was addicted to Crystal Lite, 2 packs of Sweet N Low in my morning coffee and aspertame in my low fat sweetened yogurts. I find I can't eat any of that stuff anymore, after only two weeks. It's crazy! Anyway, he devotes a lot of time to reason why these diet sodas are killing us all. So, congrats!
