Our local high school has an amazing chef/food school/hospitality program. When my middle DD started there (older DD went out of town) I offered to volunteer with the food school to share some cake stuff with the kids.
My plan was simple - volunteer, get my name out there, free advertising, blah blah blah.
I've gone and demonstrated how I fill, crumb coat & fondant a cake, sugar flowers, sugar cookies (this is a favourite because it is more hands on for them), figure modelling, and then we cycle back through. No rhyme or reason, but we switch it up every so often. I've also helped judge the board pastry competition that is part of the high skills major program (all kinds of trades participate in the competitions)
Today we did sugar cookies, and all the kids got to decorate their own after I showed them a few tips.
And at the end of the day, Chef D gave me the most wonderful thank you:
One of the woodworking teachers made it for me - I'm so touched that they did this for me!!

That is very cool. I love the laser etched(?) cutting boards so much that I bought one for a Christmas gift after seeing a post about them here. I am not sure if yours is a plaque or a cutting board but it was nice of them to honor you. But IMO the greater acknowledgement should go to you for offering your time and expertise to help students learn. Nice gift but I think your efforts should be applauded.
