I want to do something special for it. I can throw her a party at the mosque as it will be after Ramadan and everyone can eat at a reasonable hour. (Lots of people do stuff like that.)
I can give her an experience birthday gift. I was thinking we should go to Sephora and get facials done and I would buy her makeup for her. She said she has been so out of the practice of using make up that I want her to feel special about herself.
This is her 50th birthday and I want to do the right thing. The present from me won't be a surprise at all as I will ask her to pick the date and we will spend the entire day together, go for lunch and then get our make up done.
Maybe I should talk to someone on the board at the mosque and see if they are organizing something for her instead. She does a ton of volunteer work for them so it wouldn't be unusual for them to put on a big party for her.
Getting catering isn't that difficult, getting the mosque basement one evening isn't hard, would she want that is my question. I will talk to her husband and the chair of the board to see how to proceed. OR we could all go out for halal Thai food for dinner and celebrate there. That might be the easiest thing.

I would definitely talk to her husband first to see if he's already planning something special for her. He might be glad to share some of the planning with you. If there is going to be a party at the mosque for her, you could take her to have her make up done before the party so she doesn't have to do it herself.
