I was THRILLED when he was announced as the new Doctor and I feel it is amazing casting. I think he's going to be one of my favorite Doctors. You never forget your first Doctor and mine was Tom Baker. I think he's going to play it more like Tom, and that makes me very happy. I adored Tom Baker. I enjoyed the episode quite a bit and was really impressed with Capaldi.

bdawnb I just tend to re-watch the Tennant episodes more than any of the others, and I'd seen that one fairly recently so it was fresh on my mind.

Now it's really hard to watch Musketeers! LOL! I can't see him the same! He's been busy! We're going to try to see it on the big screen here tonight too. They are doing a one time showing.

I usually have a really hard time adjusting to a new doctor, but I really liked Capaldi's portrayal in this first episode. I also loved the references to prior shows and all of the humor. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would!

I'd finally just gotten to the point where I liked Eleven, and then when they announced Capaldi I was pretty skeptical. But, I think he did an awesome job. The beginning of the episode was a bit slow, I thought, and I wasn't quite sure, but by the end I loved him. Already.
Favorite line of the episode was after he yanks Clara's hair out: "There was one out of place. I thought you'd want it killed."

I liked it. I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but my husband is. Doctor Who was one show I could watch with him because I found Tennant hilarious and Smith so charming. I was a little afraid with Capaldi, thinking they were going with a more serious doctor. Last night's episode made me laugh quite a bit, so I was happy. I like Clara. Although it helps that I have a Great Aunt Clara Oswald and Oswald was my maiden name. I keep hoping she will have sister named Jill show up.

I asked DD who is the whovian in our house. She is reserving judgement until she watches a couple more episodes.
her opinion is that the writing is just so bad it is hard to tell. She thinks Steven Moffat is really great at shorter length story lines (like Sherlock) and his female characters suck.
they need a new writer to improve the story line.

I think he is going to be brilliant! Ten is "my" doctor, and Eleven grew on me, but I think I'm really going to like Twelve. It was hard to tell in the first episode, because you know they do an episode where he adjusts to his new regeneration and is figuring out who he is. But he seems like he's really going to take well to the role. I can go either way on Clara. She's not bad, but not my favorite companion by far. My dh is going to take a little longer to adjust to the new Doctor and he isn't happy that Clara will be leaving soon.

Dd and I had it recorded and watched it 2 days ago. We really liked it! I've seen a lot of the classics and 12 reminded me quite a lot if those older shows, but of course with a modern spin. 12 even mentioned the 'long scarf' that Tom baker? had way back whenever that series was on. I think this doctor will do well.
Clara's ok, I don't mind her. Dd likes her enough but liked the other companions a little better.

She is gone as of December. No reason released as to why but it is well known.

I thought I posted about this yesterday, but I guess not? Anyway, I really liked it! Like others have mentioned, it generally takes me a bit to warm up to a new doctor. Though I watched reruns as a kid, [HASH]9 was really my first doctor. I didn't love Tennant at first, but that changed pretty quickly and he's my favorite of the bunch. I ended up liking Matt Smith quite a bit (and loved young + grown up Amelia Pond and Rory "Pond" so, so much). So, I was not sure how I'd feel about Capaldi, but I think he nailed it. Can't wait to see what he brings. Oh, and I hate to say I'm not fond of Clara and was glad to hear she'd be exiting. I really liked her when she was just the souffle girl or the fiery Victorian version of herself, but she has been pretty bland at times. And downright annoying at other times. Yeah, I know she stood up to the half-face robot guy, but it seemed pretty forced to me. I really wanted to like her, too.

I think the actress playing Clara would be great in other roles. I liked her as Soufflé girl. But the storyline didn't work for me. Which is a shame because I think she had potential.
