We didn't feel a thing in our area of the South Bay. I didn't even know there was an earthquake until I read this post late in the morning. For some reason I didn't check the news like I normally do at 7 am. What was funny was FIL who lives near SF called early yesterday and kept asking if we were okay. I kept replying, fine. Everyone's fine. It got to the point where I wanted to ask, are YOU okay? I guess I should have now! Glad all our North Bay refupeas are okay.

We're close to you - Santa Cruz Mountains. Dh and I felt it, but thought it was one of the dogs (sleeping between us) twitching in their sleep. Hey SC County people! HI ! I didn't feel it either - in Watsonville. But I will never ever forget the Loma Prieta quake. I love talking to people about it, everyone remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing. I remember it like it was yesterday. I missed the Loma Prieta Quake, I moved to the US in 1996,- but, neighbors have told me horror stories of no electricity or water for weeks and weeks, and, we can thank that quake for no longer being able to get earthquake insurance in our neighborhood.
I just realized, my homeopathic doctor is in your town, Dr. Lester

It is expensive and only covers actual cost of the dwelling, rather than replacement value. If our house were condemned, we would not be able to rebuild even the existing house with the insurance money. At least our lot is valuable. We would have to sell the lot and take that with insurance money and move out of the county.

I'm not paying a fortune for earthquake insurance, but I'm practically out in the country, so the real estate isn't that valuable, and we're not directly on a fault, either. How much are you guys paying for it? I saw it quoted on the (drama queen) national news as being $800+ a month, which is nonsense. I think.
I pay $135/mo total for replacement-value homeowners, earthquake, flood, and bumped-up liability insurance.

mine is a couple of hundred more per year than regular insurance.. no content replacement, no living costs....as cheap as possible...but we have a 3 story house. our house is a big asset...and we could go live on our boat

to clarify, I guess we can get earthquake insurance, but no-one company wants to insure us, we're too much of a risk, our house is on a faultline, it would cost us thousands per year to insure our house

We were in Napa, about 3 miles from the epicenter. It was horrible. We live in Southern California so are somewhat accustomed to earthquakes but nothing like this. It was violent and seem to last forever. I won't lie, I screamed like a little girl. Oh no...I'm so sorry! My mom was on a business trip in Northridge when that quake hit. She was in a big hotel and it was early so it was dark...very terrifying. Those early morning ones are especially bad (not that they aren't all bad).
