If you're going to remove the name of the school and principle, you might want to take out the name of the Director of Student Services as well!

I read about that on the Atlanta Journal Website. Apparently there are online threats of a purge in Savannah. They don't really think that anything is going to happen, but police there are preparing anyway...just in case. I will see if I can find a link, and will come back and post it.. Here is a link to the article about the purge and Savannah, GA

At the risk of sounding like "that mom" I have to say that my boy saw the original movie (I think on one of the movie channels) and REALLY wanted to see the most recent one but couldn't because it was rated R. I know my older son saw it because he teased his brother that he wasn't old enough to see it without *mommy*.
I will ask him (the younger) when he wakes up if he has heard of such a rumor, but I suspect that it is just that...a rumor and nothing we need to be terribly concerned about. But what I love? I love that your district took the rumor as a time to communicate with parents, and to take another stand against violence in the school, to remind parents to talk to their kids about the misuse of social media, and what to look for in your kids as signs of potential trouble. Good for them!

Philadelphia is one of the cities that a Purge Day was supposed to occur 8/22 and the Police and Homeland Security were aware of the threat and although the felt it wasn't credible announced they would remain vigilant. I think your school district was proactive and hopefully this can open up dialogue between parents and their children and if someone is so disconnected from reality then can get mental health counseling.

There were rumors going around Louisville, Ky a week or so ago. Nothing happened.
A couple of days later my 12 yr old and her friends saw rumors for our town. I told her it was a hoax. She still wanted to sleep in my bed that night and I let her. It's good to know she's still my baby sometimes.

People ought to be scared of the real-life bullshit that happens there every day and night. It's ridiculous. And Chicago, and Detroit, and St Louis, and most every other major American inner city. It's outrageous, the things that happen every day and the things people will do to each other.

I hope the "purge" thing is just nonsense, but I like the tips your school district sent out and think all parents should read and use them every day. It is so sad that almost every time we hear of a violent act by a teen there were signs of the disconnection that were ignored or not taken seriously by either parents, schools, other students, law enforcement, etc.

My almost 13 year old dd was at a friends house overnight and was freaking out. We kept assuring her it wasn't true but she was terrified.

The other night, I guess it would have been Friday, we had lot of windows shot out. I never did hear what they thought was a final count was. But it was all over the city and it was car windows as well as home and business windows. I read then about the "Purge" rumor. Supposedly the police knew about it and didn't take it seriously. And this was meant to be a smaller scale dry run. All I know is they caused some serious damage.

Erica, The Purge is a movie franchise (I guess we call it that as there are now two) about a night when there is no such thing as the law. Folks can get away with any crime and face no consequences. It's basically a survival movie.
So now cities are dealing with rumors among the citizens that there will be a Purge uprising, where all hell will break loose and citizens won't be safe in their homes. Of course, I'm not sure how anyone thinks consequences would be suspended if they did form criminal gangs, but the intent is creepy enough to scare the bejabbers out of law-abiding folks.
I personally think some parents ought to make these movie producers stay with their freaked out kids. I know they have the right to make any film they want, but geez louise. Use some brains, Hollywood! Is this REALLY the message we need in an already uptight America at the moment?

No, I live in Metro Atlanta. I did live in Richmond Hill for a few years and was in Savannah a lot. I first saw this article in the Atlanta Journal, but when I did a search for it, the one the I linked came up first so I linked it. The Bacon Festival sounds heavenly and I bet it will smell even better. I looove bacon.

Well, since we're talking about the rumor- and the movie- I think a studio PR person started it.
