I'm sure these will make an appearance on a well known scrapper's daily look at my outfit as I commute to work instastory. Weird. this. I had to quit following on instagram. I don't care what she wears to work...just show me scrapbook stuff. SaveSave

Not interested. I don't think she's trying to appeal to her scrapbook audience with this though. She's working the angles of the 'influencer' she is/she is hoping to become. This is for her Instagram followers who don't scrapbook but want the Amy Tan California girl lifestyle. I didn't figure scrapbooksrs were her target, but the fashion market is saturated with word tees.

The phrase Beach please is a play on Bitch please, so no. Looks like something someone can cut out on a cameo and iron it on. I've also seen this before, out and about. So, it's already been done.

I could be mistaken, but didn't Amy Tan get her start designing t-shirts? I seem to remember she had a line of t-shirts way back in the day, before she moved into the scrapbook world. Yes. She was a shirt designer first and before she entered the papercrafting industry. It isn't a departure for her or a shift, this is old hat for her. But instead of selling in high end department stores, she is just peddling them herself to a new audience that probably didn't know her brand back then. Makes me wonder if her work with Cents of Style was a market test for her trying to revive this part of her brand.

Amy started in the Tee business. I think this is a natural thing for her. I do like some of her sayings on them, but I wouldn't subscribe. Sorry should have read through all of the posts first. I see that Frazzled Mom (great name) and AmandaA have already mentioned this. Definitely wouldn't buy one for myself, but wouldn't mind receiving one as a gift. I buy so few clothes for myself, I'd rather not have something written on it that makes it unwearable except in very casual settings, at least in my mind. Even though the ad on fb this morning was saying dress them up with a skirt or down with jeans. And was like, "um, NOT". There is no dressing up with a skirt a Tee with those writing on it for me. I know other people feel differently and to each their own. It could just be I'm old and out of touch.

She mentions in the video that she started in fashion, I think with embroidered tees. I gathered she's excited to get back to that with someone else doing the hard work of distribution and all the other yucky business stuff. Makes sense for her. ETA oops, sorry, I see we are all answering the same thing.

I can't possibly see spending 33.00 on a tee. If I want a cute and funky tee I will order from any of the many nerd tshirt Of a day sites. Tee fury or the like. About half the price, lots of variety, and way cooler to me then a shirt that says "Beach, please."

I think the tees are cute. I won't buy them but they're cute. I was amused when in the video she thanked viewers for being the best friends and the best tangerines. I thought she said "best FANgerines"?!

I'm not on Facebook so I didn't see the video. I'm sure the tees are cute but not something I'd wear. I'm guessing she' might be going for the young mom market. She was pretty successful with scrap collections with that theme. And I really don't get this apparel monthly subscription thing that's happening these days. How many shoes, bras, yoga pants, or tees do you need?

I thought they were cute.. I wouldn't buy a subscription though. I have a hard time finding cute tees like that for my big old shape... soooo if I knew they would fit.. I would buy one if it fit.. but I have a feeling it wouldn't.

well-known scrapbooker does NOT always equal fashion designer or lifestyle maven.
eta: after reading the thread, I see that she started in clothing... I still don't think there's anything special about them- like other people have said, tees like this with phrases on are a dime a dozen. And that price? And a subscription? weird.

Amy Tan is not going to grow the next House of Holland fashion empire off a line of quotes that most people wouldn't dare to be caught wearing. These aren't "parotees" that a niche market will giggle over and feel they must get. This is "Beach please" and the ilk, all the phrases I already have in some form in my scrap stash (and have had for a while). Her saying she's going back to her roots by claiming this is fashion is kind of an insult to the true fashion designers out there. She's brush lettering unoriginal quotes to be printed on a stack of cheap 50% viscose rayon T-shirts Inked Brands will have sourced. I guess it could be a form of ironic art installation... But fashion, it's not.

First let me start by saying I live in t-shirts and I have a lot of them. As in, a LOT a lot of them (100's). I wear them every day and sleep in them every night. Most are just basic shirts in plain solid colors, but some have sayings or are from crops I've attended, trade shows, what have you. Many I have had for 15 years or even longer. I wear my favorites until they literally wear out and fall apart. Now having said that, you would think that I might be her target customer but you would be wrong. Like someone else mentioned, most of those shirts look like someone cut the lettering with a digital cutter and ironed it on. So why would anyone pay $33 for something you can make yourself with a $2 t-shirt from Michael's and a roll of iron on film in exactly the colors you like? With exactly the sayings you like? And a subscription for the same? That's just weird.
I could see paying that much for having something custom made as a one-off, but a mass marketed generic thing? Nope.

Definite no to a T-shirt subscription I agree. And the graphic tee with the edgy sayings have already been done a million times. Go to Kmart, Sears, Walmart, Target for starters. And they are about $5 at those stores. I know. I just bought my teen six or seven of them last week.

What are some of your favorite tee sourcing sites? Mine are: Redbubble Here's one we got recently: Teepublic I like her designs: www.teepublic.com/user/risarodilBetween me or someone in the family wanting something specific every once in a while seems like we order custom tees a few times a year. But that's multiple people adding up to a few orders a year. I can't imagine intaking one a month for one person. And there are SO many awesome designers out there. I can't imagine wanting nothing but Amy's vibe month after month after month.

I am so sick of EVERYTHING being a subscription now and not just in the scrapbooking world. It's such a $ grab.
The designs were a bit blah for me too. I think maybe if she had some of the cute icons that she's used in her scrapbooking collections, I could see buying a tank or tee (but as a one-off only). The fanergine thing drives me nuts. It has an "ick" factor to me. Feels a bit presumptuous or something. I like her stuff and think she's adorable most of the time, but I wouldn't call myself a fan. But hey, whatever works. And if her fans like to be fangerines, more power to them. Hopefully she'll expand her designs beyond words.
I did find it interesting that Tracie on The Scrap Gals mentioned in a recent episode she's also thinking of doing t-shirts with her hand lettering. Maybe this is a new trend since it's pretty tough to make a living in just the scrap world.

so then, is the 'I'm your biggest fan' t-shirt supposed to be aimed at her? I must not be 'edgy' enough, because I don't get that one. Is it supposed to be ironic in some way, or something?? I wear t-shirts to work about half the time (it's a pretty casual workplace) but not ones with sayings on... and there is NO WAY you can 'dress up' a t-shirt like that, ever. If I was going to wear a t-shirt with something on besides an all-over pattern, it would be something more like the ones @zingermack posted- I like the reading one a lot! What I would like to find is some with scrapbooking / crafting sayings on that I can wear to crops. (I know they're out there, I just haven't looked for them.) A relative has one that says 'my Indian name is Runs with Beer' lol-- he wears it to the annual family reunion, without fail (there's a lot of beer-drinking going on there over the course of the weekend). After seeing that one, I think I need one for crafting that says 'my Indian name is Runs with Scissors'

Who was the Pea that designed a Cafe Press tee following an altercation with another customer at Archivers? The other customer stole items out of the Pea's shopping cart, or something like that?
I seem to remember the shirt saying something like "Don't f*ck with my scrapbook supplies. NEVER f*ck with my scrapbook supplies!" Does anyone remember the Pea? Did anyone buy a shirt?

No opinion. The graphic tees with the brush script font is not a trend I could pull off. Call me weird, but I don't like the idea of people reading my chest. Plus, if I did, I'd go for more sarcastic sayings rather than #momlife.

For causal tees I mostly go for Icebreaker merino tees - natural fibre, cool or warm depending on the season and wonderful for travel (because you can wear them several times before they need a wash). I hadn't heard of those, so I did a search. How much do you pay? When I think casual t-shirt, anything above $20.00 is formal. I am intrigued because I hate shopping with a fiery passion and if they'll last 10 years, I might reconsider. I only watched about 30 seconds of the tee-shirt video on her Facebook page (without the sound on; we're watching a movie) and it reminded me VERY much of Becky Higgins 'dancing wrapping paper' video, the way her models were posing so awkwardly... In the Becky video, she seemed a little awkward. I didn't think that about Amy. I thought it was clever calling the line Freshly Squeezed.
