I want to be a little bit silly. I want to change my name badge to add something witty. Nothing rude or saucy.
I work in a supermarket and I'm going to be serving on the till for 7 hours. My customers are mostly a generation older than me, and the rest of the staff probably a generation younger.
I thought of "goodbye (I just looked it up) So long, and thanks for all the fish" from Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but I'm not sure how many people would get it. Chances are, only one or two people would even notice, but those who did would make my day.
Ideas?

Fun idea! I know someone that did this and it was "I'm Awesome" but it was a kid. I'll admit I don't know the quote, but it would probably make me ask about it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) Or you could do a little topper above your name with "short-timer" or "I'm outta here!"

The first thing that came to my mind was print your name backward -- like mirror writing or something -- on your name badge. I like the idea of doing something different on your last day. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

@shells004 yes, that kind of thing, except in British English! Hmm, baylorgrad that made me remember that another guy turned his badge upside down on his last day, so the mirror-writing is a little too much like that. I'm now thinking of just printing "Goodbye, I'll miss you all" instead of my name. I doubt anyone will notice. It's just for my own fun.

Will management get mad or have others already done this?

Will management get mad or have others already done this? It's my last day and the branch manager isn't in. References have been written and delivered - they can't exactly sack me. The assistant/duty managers won't care, and there's not a lot they can do about it. If the area manager pops in, which is unlikely, he won't notice. He hardly notices the staff, let alone what we're wearing. The only people who might notice are the customers. That's why I want something humorous and harmless, you know?

How about, "So long, been good to know ya" It's an old song, so the customers may get the reference.

What about Sarah Cooper from this list of famous grocers? (Also, who knew that famous grocers was a thing?) If people asked about your nametag, you could share some Sarah Cooper trivia!

"aaaaaannd... I'm outta here!"
DH and I worked at a restaurant when we met. After we were officially a thing, we traded name tags for the rest of the time we worked there!

Well that was fun! I went with the Hitchhiker's Guide quotation. I served around 1000 people today, and it was noticed by 7 of them. Two hadn't heard of Hitchhiker's Guide, one asked what it meant, one thought it was from Red Dwarf and two were spot on AND understood what I meant. The final retired lady knew, and said it gave her a bad moment because her nephew had committed suicide and they had played it at his funeral! ![](http://i65.tinypic.com/10pavs6.gif) All in all it was a good day though, and I'm glad I did it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) My break starts Monday. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I just read this thread and I was just about to post a vote for "so long and thanks for all the fish" I love that quote - I'm glad that some people recognised (or nearly) recognised it. And although it was a sad memory for someone, as long as I get to have a long and happy life I would love that to be on my funeral program. It might seem strange but I already have a file on my computer with photos , instructions, songs etc for my funeral. I've recently written and spoke both my parent's eulogies and with my sister organised all the other details so I want to make things easy for my own family when the time comes. I shall add this quote to my list. Thank you. Corinne Oh and good luck with your new job!
