I know there have been threads, but no one is talking about the actual storyline for fear of posting spoilers.
So, if you've finished season 5, what did you think?

I love this show, but I can't say I was wowed by this season.
I thought the election story dragged on too long.
And then I thought a lot of stuff after the election was trying to be complicated and convoluted more for the sake of being convoluted than for the sake of advancing the story.
At the end I feel like we had a whole season and not much happened.

I agree about the election going on and on and on. Can't say it was my favourite season. It would have been good to see more of Claire's advance before the last episode!

But I'm not sure how much of my annoyance is a by-product of what's happening in reality right now. Maybe what made the first four seasons so gripping is that it was a fairly sharp contrast to the real political landscape. Now there may not be such a divide. I do appreciate how they've wrapped up this season though. There is a whole new set of possibilities to explore now. I kind of felt like we've had all we can really handle from Frank anyway. And Claire is wayyyyy creepier for me.

I kept thinking how much better the Underwoods are than the current administration. They may be evil, but man they are good at foreign relations.

I thought the story line was both boring and absurd.
Are we really supposed to believe that the President of the United States could push the Secretary of State down a flight of steps in the White House and the incident would not be caught on security cameras?
I will probably watch next season to see what Claire does as President, but if next season isn't any better than this season, I may quit watching.

That bugged me as well. That and the fact that the entire story just disappeared the moment he pushed her. Like she wouldn't have woken up and told everyone what he had done? SaveSave

I also thought this season was kind of absurd. I was just going to say that Claire being President with ZERO political experience is totally unrealistic, but forgot about Trump. Ha ha.
Frank pushing Cathy down the stairs - she only fell like 3 stairs to the short landing. How could he know she would hit her head and be knocked out? Seems just as likely she would have just broken her ankle.
I do like the reporter, Tom whoever. And I like how the girl reporter is feeding her snooping boyfriend information.

Why can some shows not age well? House of Cards like Scandal felt the need to continue to come up with more and more ridiculous plots. They did what I was most afraid of, drag on the election. Aren't we all election weary by now? I also felt this season was incredibly choppy. There was no continuity with previous seasons. I remembered Doug's relationship with Rachel but couldn't for the life of me remember why she was their enemy to begin with until DH reminded me.
I think Netflix is banking on you binge watching this show season after season. We started with Netflix when the show was in its 3rd season, I think, so it's been 2 full years since we watched the earlier seasons and I've just forgotten a lot of it. I tried watching the recaps in the trailers section and they were useless. They left out important characters, some storylines and failed to tie anything together.
Also, I really don't like Claire so it is hard to root for her getting her turn. At least Frank has a record of years in Congress. Claire, with virtually no experience for the job, is jumping ahead of many members of Congress or Governors who have spent their lives working toward the goal of the presidency. To say she should have the job because we finally get to have a woman President is patronizing.
Killing people off and then getting pardons is the easy way out. Another thing I didn't like about either Underwood's administration is the lack of regular activity. They deal with one issue at a time, no one is ever walking around in the hallway except them and key people. The White House just wouldn't be that quiet a place. I really looked forward to this season but I felt like the character of Tom Hammerschmidt. It's like you expected to have uncovered something big and suddenly it's disappeared.

I love this show! But I just finished this season and I was underwhelmed. The acting is outstanding, of course. But the election dragged on too long. And they storyline was not believable. There's no way the president would get away with murder in the White House. And Claire killing her lover? Come on. She would have been busted.

I just finished it last night, I actually re-watched the whole series.
I did like that Claire finally talked to the viewer and she definitely upped her creep level this season.
The trainer/civil war reenactment guy Eric story line was hard to take especially the bike scene there wasn't enough development of that story for him to love Frank.
I prefer Frank as president not sure I will like Claire as president.
I think the character development of these newer characters is so weak compared to previous seasons.
I do like when he talks to the audience for a while he wasn't doing that as much.
I'm over Tusk and Lisa hope it's the last of them.
I don't think I care for the Patricia Clarke character she is odd.
So what did Mac send Leanne and what was Claire reading at her desk after she became the president.

Doug Stamper repels and fascinates me. I about died when his girlfriend told him she was hate f*cking him. But I don't think that really works as revenge. How does this dog faced guy get these women?
Claire's writer boyfriend I didn't sense any chemistry between them. Seems like he was always waiting around in the kitchen for her, hard to believe that she would fall for him. I figured that wouldn't end well...
There really are no characters I root for except for maybe Tom the newspaper guy, I wanted him to bring them down. But turns out Frank and Doug were leaking the info to him? WTF?
Funny that I was feeling sorry for the Secretary of State for all the crap she has had to put up with from the Underwoods, then Frank pushes her down the stairs.

I always thought Tom the writer and Frank would end up together there was sparks last season. I feel the same about DS he has a sexy creep vibe about him lol.

I think the character development of these newer characters is so weak compared to previous seasons. This was the biggest flaw in the season, imo. I think we were supposed to feel something for LeeAnn but those hints of a backstory didn't do enough to make me care about her.
