I swear, I don't know where one of my kids came from sometimes. His car is a total dumpster fire. Crap everywhere, papers spread around, wrappers and cans on the floor, mail strewn across the back seat, etc. Somehow they fit a car seat and a booster seat in there, so of course there are toys and bottles too amongst the mess. Makes my fingernails itch just looking at it. Doesn't seem to bother them a bit.
Me? If it goes in my car at the beginning of the trip, it comes out at the end - sorta like a national forest. lol I have a leather magazine box that sits behind my seat in both cars that holds grocery bags, umbrella, etc, and that's where my purse goes when I get in the car. Otherwise, there's nothing to be seen other than a tidy luxurious sanctuary. I like it that way.
So - you?

I hate trash in the car!! If I have trash, it is inside the door - the little pockets. So small stuff like a tissue and straw wrappers. Bag, cups anything else gets tossed right away.

Mine is tidy, but there are some things that permanently live in there (in storage areas). Like DS's binoculars and bird journal. An extra camera battery and SD card. Dog leash and poop bags. Shout wipes. Hand sanitizer. A few other things that we routinely need when we're out and about but are easy to forget. Everything is stowed away, though, and not visible.

I'm pretty much like you. I keep my reusable grocery bags on the floor of the backseat, the back area of my SUV has a couple of umbrellas and blankets (for emergencies in the winter, and for impromptu picnics in the summer), and then I have the usual tissues, advil, pen, notepaper, etc. in the center console. That's about it.

I often have stuff in my car. Today I have a box of teacups that were given to me as a gift, a couple of books my kids left, and some papers and water bottles that need to get put where they belong. A pair of shoes one of my kids left in there and pool towels that didn't get used last time we went.

My van is a total dump. Between the kids and the dog it seems like my car is never clean.

Mine was a dumpster until I cleaned it out last night. Now I just need to get it detailed.

(Disclaimer: typically I am in my car by myself.)
My car trends towards dumpster- if I drink a soda, the empty plastic bottle gets tossed on the floor of the car. That empty bottle may or may not come out of my car when I get home. It's better right now since I've only had it about 6 months, but it will most likely get worse as time goes on.

Mine is immaculate. Umbrellas in pockets on doors. Tissues, wipes, hand sanitizer, etc stored in glove compartment. Everyone who knows me knows the rule...do not leave crap in Kathie's car!!!
Now, DH's vehicle? Usually looks like a bomb went off in there 😳

a sanctuary. nothing on the floor, nothing above the dash against the windshield, nothing in the front or back seats other than my purse. no drinks left in the car, no eating in the car. the trunk has two small hampers with my grocery bags, etc. i have a guy come to the office to wash my car so the outside is clean too. odd, i know.

When I worked home health I lived in my car 90% of the time. Lunch was eaten in there, paperwork was done in there and I even took naps and changed in there so it was a mess. Like shameful mess lol.
Now things are kept very clean.

My car is always clean. I wipe down the inside leather every week. No trash is left in it.
My cars leather and carpet is black and will show everything so I get it detailed once a month.
Umbrella in the door pocket, tissues in the console. I do keep a folded up plastic table cloth in the back of my car from when I am transporting flowers. I tuck it into the little cubby in the back so its out of the way.

Thank goodness, there are a few "pristine chapel" people out there! Whew! My son and his wife think that I'M the one that is weird, because my car is so tidy all the time. No food in the car, no snacks in the car, no smoking in the car, no trash in the car.
Before anyone brings this up - my car has always been this way, even when my kids were young. There were a couple more small tubs in the car for toys, etc, but other than that, it was clean.

my boyfriend is one of the 'sanctuary' people... his Volvo is kept immaculate; I will occasionally drink a soda or eat something while in it, but he never does. When I still had my Honda Fit (I had it for about 8 years, maybe?) it eventually looked like a homeless person lived in it, practically- balled up sweatshirt on the back seat, empty food wrappers, empty pop cans, crumpled up papers, etc.

I got a brand-new car, my first ever, four years ago and I swore to myself I would take good care of it and keep it clean and pristine, because it was so lovely to drive in a new, clean car.
Well, I haven't done an awesome job of that. It's not a dumpster, but it's not clean, either. Right now it's cluttered with some random papers, tissues, drink bottles. But the big problem is that I can't park in my garage (full of DH's stuff) and so I track every single bit of yard debris into the car. The floors look bad. And I hate to vacuum.

There's nothing in my car except an umbrella tucked under the passenger seat, my 'restaurant sweater' that's behind the driver's seat and a ball cap that keeps my hair under control with the top down. Anything else would be in the way of the passenger's feet or get blown out. No back seat to clutter.

I am not a pig in the car, but it always surprises me how random detritus accumulates in there. Every so often, I clean it out. Drives my husband crazy, because his car looks like the day he got it. BUT he NEVER actually cleans his car. The dust on his dash is astonishing to me, but he doesn't "see" it.

That's about it. Sounds like mine. I keep a snow brush out in the winter and a window reflector out in the summer. If there was a bit of garbage it comes out every time with you. Sometimes the dash is super dusty but there is no junk. My SIL and her SO their vehicles look like bombs. He got a new truck for the first time in his life and he was so proud of it, he was driving a $500 beater and got a brand spanking new truck. Next time I saw it - bomb - dirt, mud, footprints on the seat, back of the seat, wrappers, bits of food, toys, junk, clothes, crap crap crap! I was shocked! I also had two little kids at one point and my vehicle never looked like that. I had a small basket for the kids toys and I/they picked them up each time. I kept a small packed bag with extra diapers and clothes tucked away neatly.

Mine has a soft "crate" in the back (SUV). In it I keep all of my tools, winter stuff, dog stuff, and blankets. I also keep my MacWagon back there. Other than the back, it is clean. I do haul a pretty hairy dog around now and then, so I do have some dog hair/glitter. I am never embarrassed if someone needs a ride. My husband's truck is pristine and kind of the neighborhood joke. My boys also have pretty darn spotless vehicles. Mine is usually the dirtiest.

Mine is more of a dumpster. I don't like it, but it always seems to end up being a mess. I am in my car a lot during my work day, so I have work things in there and I usually have to eat one meal in the car. I also have four kids that are in sports so we go on trips a lot to games. That means sports stuff, things we need for games, snacks, etc are in there often.

Mine is a sanctuary. How hard is it to toss your trash when you reach a destination?
That said, 90% of the time I am the only one in the car.

My car would be clean if not for the kids and DH. Everytime DH drives my van without me, the next time I go to drive I find wrappers and coffee cups everywhere it drives me nuts.
DH car is embarrassing and I hate when I have to drive it. I call it the garbage pod and refuse to clean it out for him. I think some of the clutter (not the actual trash) has been there since we moved 4 years ago.

I LOVE a clean car. I strive to maintain a clean car. I fail.
I am the mom that drives everyone's kids to and from school so on any given day during the school year I have 5 - 8 different kids in my car over the course of a day. I only have 2 kids, and one of them is THE WORST about leaving stuff in my car. There is a trash can right in front of the middle school where I drop her off and it never fails, every morning she leaves some kind of trash, be it a napkin, straw wrapper, or unfinished drink, in my car. Nine times out of 10 she leaves something she NEEDS in my car.
In the afternoons two of the girls tend to snack in my car (chips, candy, whatever they have) and they leave a debris field. The most frustrating is when it rains, the schoolyard gets muddy and instead of staying on the sidewalk 3 of these girls tend to gather in the muddy area and then track fresh mud into my car. I was beyond pissed off the day that happened. These are 12-year-olds, not preschoolers, and I know for a fact that their own mothers wouldn't stand for them doing that in their cars.
My 15-year-old has sensory issues and has a habit of keeping her backpack on even when she gets in the car. Unfortunately her ballpoint pen poked through the pocket of her backpack and left a 6-inch pen mark (with a deep indention) in my passenger side leather seat. She then tried to clean it up with a Clorox wipe, which bleached the seat. Now I don't unlock the car door for her until the backpack is off.
I tell both of my kids - often - that I can't wait until they have their own homes/cars - and keep in mind by then I will be really old and senile - and I will likely treat your homes/cars the way you treat mine.

Jack, spare tire, tire iron, jumper cables in the back. Registration, insurance, owner's manual, hand sanitizer in the glove compartment. iPhone recharger in the compartment between the seats.
Other than that, everything goes with me when I leave the car.

There is never trash in my car and no food allowed in it. I can't stand the smell of fast food. Now dog hair on the other hand - that gets vacuumed once a week. He rides in the back back, but his hair has a tendency to float around, but I do my best. It drives me bananas, but he loves the car so much that I can't say no

The only thing *littering* my Honda Pilot are the cloth shopping bags that are in the back seat. And during the rainy season, a few umbrellas.

Mine is tidy. I do have stuff I need to take care of but it's not gross. It does need to be vacuumed though. Plenty of dead grass in it.
DH keeps his car clean too but doesn't wash it enough. I run it through a car wash when I drive it if time permits.
My sister, on the other hand? Yuck. Her car is a rolling trash can. Water bottles that need to be put in the recycle bin, fast food bags that need to be tossed, books, papers, etc. My kids refuse to ride with her.

I wouldn't call it a sanctuary, but it is generally very tidy. Any trash accumulated during a trip is taken out ASAP.
