Mine is in between. It's only 2 years old but the trunk desperately needs to be organized. We keep trading in cars and getting newer cars (stupid, I know!!) and go thru the trunk at that time. If we lived in a house vs. a 3rd story walkup, I think I'd be able to keep it cleaner. We hardly ever get it washed either. Down here in FL there aren't too many real car washes (automatic with people cleaning/vacuuming the interior). I don't go to the do-it-yourself washes. I can't vacuum and clean my own car in 99% humidity.

Mine is in between.
I don't like trash and a bunch of extra crap in it.
But I do not regularly vacuum, clean, or wash it. I am pretty OCD about my house. Something has to give. It's the car.
Also, when I purge the house everything I'm getting rid of goes to the car immediately because I would rather put up with it in the car than in the house. So there is frequently a goodwill bag and a half price books box going in my trunk.

a sanctuary. nothing on the floor, nothing above the dash against the windshield, nothing in the front or back seats other than my purse. no drinks left in the car, no eating in the car. the trunk has two small hampers with my grocery bags, etc. i have a guy come to the office to wash my car so the outside is clean too. odd, i know. This is me pretty much. Nothing in the floors, nothing in the door pockets. I have one of those decorative/foldable cubes in the back cargo area that holds the umbrella, grocery bags and misc items I like to keep with me in the car. The only thing in the back pocket of one of the seats is the window shades for the front window. I keep it dusted and I have the all weather mats that keep the carpets clean.

DH HATED our old car and treated it accordingly. There was crap every where and he never took it to the car wash even though he drove it to work every day. It got a little better when I put a small bucket in the back seat for him to use for garbage. He didn't really empty it but at least all the garbage was in one place (or close enough) instead of all over the car.
Now it's ok - he loves the new(er) car and takes good care of it.

I have an hour long commute to and from work so I like to keep mine in sanctuary condition. Rarely do I have passengers in my car so that helps me keep it clean, I don't have other peoples trash to clean up. I stop at a store on the way home and remove all trash, then clean my windows. Bugs are really bad on my way home and within 30 minutes my windshield is covered.
Unlike my house, everything in my car has it's place and stays there. I wish I could get my house as organized as I have my car.

My vehicle is neither luxurious nor a sanctuary. It's not full of trash, though. Just the stuff you find in a lot of cars that are hauling kids around---someone's sneakers and swim bag, a softball bat, folding chairs, an old blanket that I need to get over to a local animal rescue...

I keep the interior of my car clean and tidy. Trash is removed every time I exit my car. The only thing loose in my car is a tissue box.

Dumpster. But I practically live in my car and hauling 4 kids around who apparently can't clean up after themselves even when I make them clean out the car. Ironically my oldest son will not let anyone have food or drinks in his car but had no issue throwing trash in the floor in mine. However I'm getting a new car in the next few weeks and I will make them walk if they trash my car!

Mine is perfectly clean. There is never any trash in there, and I dust the dash, etc., frequently. The floor mats get vacuumed and washed as soon as there is any dirt on them. I also hand wash and wax it regularly. BUT... I have no children using my car anymore, and my husband knows I like it clean! My girls think I'm a freak... I'd probably have to agree with them.

I consider my car my sanctuary where I have dominion over the tunes I listen to, and what I choose to transport around with me. I remove extraneous cups, straw wrappers etc. when I depart the car. I do not customarily eat in my car. The things I do carry around with me have a place and they are kept there.
I walk every day with a dog in sometimes wet and muddy conditions. The floors of the driver's side look like a dirt pile at the end of the season and there are mud splatter spots on the back seat doors. I choose to spend my time in other ways than daily car washing and vacuuming.
So by your standards, I drive a dumpster.

I only eat in my vehicle on trips but I do accumulate stuff. Right now there is a bag of clothes that I took to Goodwill on Good Friday and they were closed so they have been riding around with me all this time. On the plus side, I've lost 9 lbs so I might go through that bag to see if there is anything I want to salvage. We keep a certain amount of regularly used stuff like hats for summer walks and scarves/coats for winter ones and I always have a change of clothes and shoes in my vehicle tucked under the seat. I keep a small bucket beside my seat for trash and that helps. When I had a business and used my vehicle for that I had tons of stuff in there. When I cleaned out the van before this one, I found 4 pairs of Keds tennis shoes which I used to wear for installations. 4 pairs! I was determined to do better this time but I think the only thing that has saved me is I've closed the business.

My car is pretty clean. I have a bag for trash up front and have conditioned DD to not throw candy wrappers or other trash on the floor or in the side pockets. I have a couple insulated bags and a couple 31 utility bags in the back plus a travel pillow and a blanket. Other than DD's booster there isn't anything in the back seat. I have a couple extra Target bags for trash folded up in the center console and some extra napkins and a pack of wipes in the driver's side pocket. Now DH's truck on the other hand is a dumpster fire. He hates having a bag for trash hanging up front somewhere so the trash ends up everywhere. He has a pile of assorted hats and glasses up on the dash, half empty bottles of water or tea, a pile of power cords, a pile of keys, some towels, a pair of boots, at least one jacket, all kinds of junk. It kind of drives me nuts.

My car is clean (usual stuff - reusable grocery bags stacked in the back, umbrella in the door pocket, etc.). My kids are well-trained at this point and pick up their stuff when they exit the car. I recently drove DS and his friends (16-17 years old) and we had fast food in the car. When we arrived, DS said to one of friends, "Hey, grab your trash and throw it out." What a good boy!

Mine is fairly tidy because I hate clutter. If there is trash I contain it in the pockets of the doors and will pull it out and put it into a plastic bag to be dumped at the earliest opportunity. I keep meaning to store some of those bags in the glove box but keep forgetting. Other that that everything else is kept neat and tidy. A place for everything and everything in it's place. Even the trunk is empty unless it's grocery shopping day and then it's filled with reusable shopping bags.
I wish the outside were the same. My driveway is under an over 150 year old oak tree that sheds sap, acorns, pollen and other things depending on the time of year. I even have acorn dents in the hood! Good thing my car is 18 years old and I don't mind. But the sap and pollen are a pain. I love the tree though. When the house was built they decided to save the tree rather than cut it down.

Sanctuary.
I take it to the car wash and get a complete wash, vacuum, wipe down twice a week.

(Disclaimer: typically I am in my car by myself.) My car trends towards dumpster- if I drink a soda, the empty plastic bottle gets tossed on the floor of the car. That empty bottle may or may not come out of my car when I get home. It's better right now since I've only had it about 6 months, but it will most likely get worse as time goes on. Same for me I travel a lot with the dogs and/or kids or to dog events. So when I leave my car my hands are usually full with my dog on the leash, his bag, my drink or whatever. I also usually have spare bottles of water just laying on the floor for the dogs. And then there is also all my other stuff. My iPod, my window squeegee, my tissues, my iPad, my folding chairs that now stay in the back for dog shows, etc.

There is never any garbage in either vehicle ... that's just gross If it doesn't fit in the covered middle console it doesn't stay ... The back of my truck does have the seats up and two quilts down so that my huge dog can ride back there after her walks (They get washed regularly)

Pretty clean. I don't obsess, but I don't like to have very much in there because in an accident, anything not strapped down will become a projectile and can be dangerous.

My husband's car has a long pillow and two lap afgans in the back seat. I used them enough to keep them in there. And a coat. We are bad about water bottles but those get tossed when he fills up.
We really don't eat in it except for sunflower seeds on a long trip.

My car is not a dumpster, but I don't consider it a sanctuary either. I may have some trash in the middle cup holder for a couple of days before I empty it, but usually what I bring into my car comes out of the car when I get home. I have the usual stuff in the trunk (grocery bags, paper towel, jumper cables), and most of my stuff inside the car fits in the middle console. There is nothing in the back seat area (except for a sweater I keep forgetting to take out). I've spilt drinks in the car, I eat in the car, and I only get a car wash about once a month. But, it is ready at anytime for passengers, I don't need to move stuff to make room for them.

Same for me I travel a lot with the dogs ^^^ yeah, the dogs don't help- the interior of my car is dark gray, and the dogs are sable / white. We put down a blanket for them, but it only does so much to stop the hair from sticking to the upholstery in the back. But they don't go in my BF's Volvo, EVER, so my SUV is the doggy taxi. (well, if there was an emergency he would, but not for typical transportation.) I can't blame the dogs for any of the soda bottles or wrinkled papers, though-- that's all me!

Been helping DD move into first apartment- brought her kayak, some furniture etc and came home pooped on top of not feeling great. There are loose, just tossed in backseat area ratchet/tie down straps, storage tote, misc stuff box etc still in car in need of wrangling and putting away 2 days out. It's hot and humid today and... maybe tomorrow. ETA or maybe not tomorrow. Have to make another trip soon, so maybe after that . LOL

MIne is somewhere in between. There is a Some crap in there right now, but it's not so bad that I'd be embarrassed if a friend called last minute and needed a lift. I usually take it every other weekend to the car wash, vacuum and clean the windows inside.
DS keeps his immaculate. DH's work truck is a dump, but his daily driver is a jeep - right now it's got no top or doors so he doesn't keep anything it. DD just got a new (to her, not brand new) car and so far it's clean, but if it's anything like her room it will be covered in crap before long.

Totally depends on the day. Some days it has more stuff in it than closet could hold and others it is completely clean.
Fatigue when we get home is a good predictor and how busy we are

My car is always clean. I take everything out when I return home. Sunglasses are put into their storage bin when I pull into the garage. If I use the USB cord, I put it back into the center console when done. I also have a monthly carwash subscription, so it gets washed about twice a week or more if it needs it. My husband wipes down the inside and vacuums it about once a month.
ETA: I do have grocery bags and an umbrella in the back, but they are stored not just thrown in there.

Sanctuary.
I do not eat in my car. I also do not store anything in my car. I go to the car wash 2x a week.
I cannot deal with dirty cars.
