I was just at my local Jo Anns and they now have letter boards and letters. There is a nice assortment of colors and letters as well as boards, and they are significantly cheaper than Heidi Swapp's!

The DCWV version? Is there only one board option? I saw a black one, but I like the idea of Heidi's white one. I wonder if the pieces fit between the brands...I'd be game to pick up HS's white board and use DCWV's elements. ETA: Yes, it is in different colors. I know which one I'll get getting now! AC made products aren't exactly known for their high quality, after all.

I have the HS xl board and a few of the letters. Got some of the DCWV and they work! Heidi's font is nicer ( my opinion) but for the price, I can live with the DCWV letters.

I was thinking of trying to mix and match as a test (I figured it would work because the letter sizes are indicated and that seems like the important part, no?) but it's good to know that it works. As long as it worked, I was going to go with the cheaper board and buy whatever letters I like the best. I think it will be fun to get one of the smaller ones for my 6 year old to have fun making words while his little brother and sister nap. It'll keep him thinking and hopefully with him only using it while the other sleep, the letters will stay where they belong and will be better taken care of. If he loses the letters, then the board would just become mine. I think I read on DCWV's FB page that the website doesn't have their letters yet, but there are more options in store. I can't wait to go check it out!!

I ended up walking around the store with it then putting it back. Unfortunately, it's a metal board and I love the look of the felt boards. Super nit picky, but I'm trying to not buy stuff I don't love!

My scrap room could be featured on "Hoarders" !

I wonder if you could get something similar at a restaurant supply business? I think they would be fun to play with.

Thanks for the heads up! This would be a good future gift for my teenage daughter. I have looked at the lightup ones from Heidi Swap and some on Amazon, but this one could potentially be cheaper.

Another heads up is to look in the craft area of Walmart. I found a Leisure Arts brand light box and letterboard for $10 each!! Yes, they both came home with me. The letterboard comes with basic black letters, numbers and symbols set. There is also an aqua and gray set and a coral and something set. The light box also had another accessory pack for it. Yepperoonies, I got them all! The light box is great and it is alreay in play.
The letterboard is white felt and seems fine as long as you hold it with both hands and treat it a bit gentle. I had to take my first one back when I grabbed a corner and picked it up. It just sort of did some sort of weird break at the corner. I think I am going to get the letterboard set up for Father's Day. It is a lot of work taking all of those little letters off of the plastic form they are on.
