I haven't been to Great American Scrapbook Convention in years, since they stopped coming to where I was living. Since I moved to the Dallas area last fall, I finally have a chance to go again.
I know more folks will be going tomorrow, but I am going today. It will still be crowded, but hopefully a little less than on Saturday.
I am just going to shop, since none of the classes really appealed to me, but I am excited. It will be interesting to see how it compares with Scrapbook Expo, which I also attended.
Is anyone here going today or tomorrow? Will you be shopping, cropping, and/or taking classes?

Not going - but attended a couple of times YEARS ago!!
Be sure to make a report -- who was there, what you see, what were your overall impressions about scrapbook conventions!!

Tim Holtz was there doing demonstrations!
I wanted to ask him if he had any news about the Tonic stamp press, but he was surrounded by adoring fans watching him do a demo, and I really didn't think he would tell me anything, anyway. I'm sure the lawyers have essentially muzzled him on that subject until the lawsuit is settled.
It was better than I expected for shopping, too. I had been told by a Refupeas that Scrapbook Expo was better than GASC. I went to both this year, and I know I spent more at GASC, although I spent far too much at both conventions.
I am sure that scrapbookers who aren't into stamping probably weren't happy with all the stamping booths, although many of those that carried stamps also had dies and other fun stuff, too.
I left footsore, weary, and hungry, but I had a blast!
I spent about 3 hours shopping, then decided that I had spent more than enough money and had plenty of new goodies to keep me happy and busy.

I spoke with Mario, Tim's partner. He said the stamp press is on the water now. Hopefully things will go smoothly with customs and hopefully be in stores by September.

Not till September? Wasn't it expected here in the U.S. about mid-July?

I was also there! I restrained myself with the shopping. Probably spent about $150 total and I didn't think that was too bad. I wasn't planning on buying the Distress Oxide inks but watching Tim demo'ing them changed all that. He's amazing and I got to chat with him for a little bit so that was fun.
My friend and I did the Thursday Technique workshop which was fun. About 5 vendors gave all of us croppers little kits of their products and they gave us instructions and we followed along. It wasn't rocket science. I was hoping for more learning of artsy techniques and I felt like it was more like an enticement to go buy more from them at their booths. Lots of give aways but we didn't win.
We took 4 classes. First one was Advance Layering Techniques 2.0 taught by a guy that was pretty funny. Learned so cool techniques and they were very generous by including supplies that almost added up to course fee PLUS a voucher to choose a free ( up to $15)stamp set. Needless to say, this was my FAVE class!
Second was Embellishment Envy with Queen and CO. They gave us a die cut sheet of different shapes. Then we simply followed the picture instructions for layering the shapes. I can't say that we learned anything. It was more do this and then ... They did give us a cool class packet with a embellishment binder and insert pages plus some embellishments. I did win some enamel dots. My least favorite class.
Third was Bible Journaling. This class had some cool techniques that I really wanted to learn. If the class was 2 hrs instead of an hour, that would have been ideal as we really had to rush which left my two step stamping looking like a child did it. We did not get to keep the stamp set so I had no choice. The plus is that I did learn stuff for future projects. Didn't win any give aways. 3rd fave class.
Last was a watercoloring class where we got to play with different watercoloring mediums. This was fun! I had my first taste of the distress inks. Very generous give aways but didn't win the big ones. I did win a small something. 2nd fave class for sure!
We paid for the crop on Saturday. This was definitely worth it. They had enough prizes for all 200 or so of us to win twice! There was some good stuff! The grand prize was a tote loaded with stuff and Treehouse Scrapbook Retreats gave a weekend to a winner plus 6 friends. Omgosh that would've been awesome! At the beginning of the night, the organizers were handing out 12 x 12 papers to each cropper. At the end of the night there were stacks of it left and they told us to go get what we wanted. Some ladies were greedy. I saw some that had 2 inch stacks which left me thinking there were some ladies that didn't get to enjoy the extra offering. I got about 15 sheets from a company that I never seen before so that was neat.
There you have it. My review...take it for what it's worth. Would I go back again? YES!!!!
