I am on summer break and my goal is to purge as much as possible. I really do not have much time when working so need to take advantage of the free time and get this done.
The problem is I cannot have a yard sale where I live and this is not the right time of year. I have listed a few things on ebay and a musical instrument on Craigslist. No bites from Craigslist so probably will put it on ebay tonight. Ebay listings are going well.
I have quite a bit of stuff that is really not worth the hassle of ebay, but it would be tricky listing it all on Craigslist. Too many things. Examples are things like an Epson Picturemate, older style but works great but heavy and expensive to ship. There are many other thinks like this, you know in the $25. or so dollar range. Also lots of clothes and shoes, some clothes still have tags.
What do you think, should I just stop being greedy and donate or does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

Sell it locally through your local Facebook Buy Sell Trade page.
List it as porch pick up, which means the person who buys it just drives buy to pick it up and leaves the money under your mat. No packaging, no shipping, no fees. Very little effort on your part.
List your stuff and set a deadline - if it doesn't sell in a week donate it.

I had a yard sale last time I purged, for a cross country move, but it only did so-so. I'm not the type to want to list things on Craig's List so I donated tons and tons of stuff to the goodwill and the DAV. Even that got to be too much trouble so right before we moved I just started setting things out by the curb. People took all sorts of things I wouldn't think anyone would want. All that was left was taken by the city (I called them to let them know, as per the trash policy) and they took away the rest for a small fee.
I did eBay some things that I knew would sell well, but mostly, it just wasn't worth my time to negotiate with people. I'd rather give things away than haggle over a few bucks with a cheapskate.

I could not find the Facebook buy sell trade for our area. Further, I live in a small gated neighborhood no people driving by and people can't come in unless they call the house. Looks like my best bet is to donate and go for a tax deduction.

Leave an item out to be picked up and trust that the other person will leave money under the mat? I must live in a rough neighborhood.

She doesn't want to deal or have to wait around. She has never had anyone just take and not leave money.

I've done it dozens of times and it's been fine, both as the buyer and the seller. It seems to be the preferred/most prevalent exchange method on all the FB sites I'm on. What's the worst that could happen? Someone steals an item I was going to get rid of anyway? Ok. That's no loss to me. It's not worth it to me if I have to arrange a time to go meet someone and then spend gas money to get there.

I do that all the time (we are talking 10-30 dollars price range).

If you donate to someplace that will give you a receipt, I believe you can deduct it from your taxes.

I would just donate everything. Call an organization that will come and pick everything up from you. Vietnam Vets and Lupus Foundation will do that in my area. Just google them.

There is an animal rescue thrift shop in my area and that is were it will be going. I will get a receipt and deduct in my taxes. This should be a lesson to me, too much stuff that soon becomes clutter.
I have been more careful buying things over the past several years. All of this dates back to my free spending days in early 2000. Hope someone can benefit from my indiscretions.

I'm thinking of doing that with a couple of things in the next few weeks.
