Oops, Sorry, posted to wrong board. My sons just got into regular (small, as opposed to Duplo) Lego bricks and sets. I'm keeping my eye out like a hawk, and will hopefully be hitting up a few yard sales and maybe a small flea market this weekend. The problem is, everyone seems to only sell these on ebay and other online resale sites now. I remember a few years ago, my dd casually mentioned to me that she'd like a bin of Lego bricks. She was a tween at the time. I walked into a thrift store and there was this huge (like 800 pc) box of Lego classic bricks for $6.99! I grabbed it, ran to the register, bought it and had it in the trunk of my car within minutes. I was afraid someone would take it our of my cart if I roamed around the store with it. It was one of those truly great scores that i still look back on and smile. So, thrifters, auctioners, yard salers, and all those looking for a great deal: What are you looking for?

I look for:
* small and unique pieces of furniture (like side tables and chairs or small storage units) that will clean up and chalk paint easily for whatever room in the house I am working on (kids bedrooms and outdoor seating atm) - Craigslist is really great for these too though * vintage decor that again cleans up nicely and is back in style (old metal pieces, vintage housewares that look salvageable like cool clocks, and decor like milk glass vases) * craft-wise, I look for storage pieces (like paper racks) and stuff like stamps, but I never seem to score big on these things * and finally, rare nail polish - it outlives all other cosmetics and can nearly always be "brought back" with the right thinners
I would dig for kids clothes, but I have an aunt who already does that for us because she also loves thrifting, so it'd be overkill! I don't really hunt for toys since the kids have way too many, but large-scale outdoor toys -- wagons, those plastic house things -- catch my eye (people are always just trying to get rid of them, so it's a good bargain for the buyer). If I saw a box of Star Wars toys or LEGOs cheap, though, I'd grab 'em too!

My basement is so awful right now, I've been avoiding yard sales. I'm practical and usually look for storage pieces. We have to hide our books in the unfinished basement (special needs son will destroy them). I'd like to find some bookshelves. Bonus is they don't have to be in great condition! I do like costume jewelry and have slowly bought a few pieces to add to a jar for display. I haven't looked in a while for those. I'm always on the look out for crafty items and usually have good luck. I've bought ink pads, stamps, a die cut machine, and punches.

Scrapbooking stuff generally. The thrift stores in my area overprice just abojt everything, but some good craft items occasionally mKe it through at a decent price. Much to my boyfriend's chagrin, I've pretty much doubled my stash on the past few weekends alone.
And also, I'm always hunting for Zoo and Roller Coaster Tycoon computer games. My family friend's little guy would always be happy to watch me play but I don't have it in me to give up my copies to him, so alas I watch and wait.

I look for fabric - stuff I can make the role play garb I sew. Sometimes I grab curtains to use for fabrics.
I look at any scrapbook related stuff just in case.
I glance at the men's rack to see if there are any obscure college Tshirts for my son
I walk by the housewares/decorative items
I look at the furniture and usually find something I want but pass it up because I have no room for anything at all.
