I'm so, so sorry. It is like losing a family member.

Wow your update had me in tears. What a powerful message. Would you have kept Lexi if her owner could not be found? Maybe your furbaby is telling you to fill a little bit of the hole in your heart.
ETA My furbaby crossed the Rainbow bridge April 24. We got a little puppy a little less than a month later. She will never replace Chase but our hearts have a place for her too.

I totally get it. I have a chair that the guy in my signature would rub up against for whatever reason. I lost him almost 3 years ago and I still cannot bring myself to vacuum that corner of the chair.....

what a bittersweet update!
i remember when we lost our first dog. he had been with us for 13 years. we got him a month after we were married. a year after he passed away, we were just strolling around a pet adoption fair at the park with no intention of getting another dog. we came upon a cocker spaniel that we just fell in love with. the pet rescue person was going to drop him off at our house after the pet fair. as we were walking back to our car, we were talking about if we were ready to have another dog and wondered how our original dog might feel about the new one. just as we just said it out loud, we turned the corner and, i swear, we came face to face with a dog that looked EXACTLY like our old dog. it was like he dropped from the Rainbow Bridge and right in front of us. he looked at us with the same friendly smile our dog used to give. we took it as a goofy sign that he was giving us his thumbs up for the new dog.

I understand too - lost our furbaby three months ago. There's one wall in our hallway that hasn't been washed down yet - he would lean against it and fall down the wall - I think it was his way of scratching his back - the oil from his hair is still there.
LOVE THE UPDATE TOO!!!!

Loved your update, I lost my doggie over 2 years ago, but every time I see a dog hair on something it makes me smile. They're not necessarily hers, but at the gym I saw a dog hair on the floor that was exactly like hers, and it made me smile while doing push ups :-) I'm pretty certain it wasn't her hair, but it made me think of her. I wish she had lived long enough for my youngest to meet her.

I love your story! You are not crazy. You just lost your loved one. We all do crazy things for or because of, the ones we love. Pets are no different. They are family.
