I created an email account with a "Bell company" in the early 1990s. I have had that address all these years........... That email ends in swbell.net Bell was broken up and became ATT. I was allowed to keep that same email. Then, ATT merged or did with yahoo and my email was considered a yahoo account, but it was "serviced" by ATT. I know there were some things that applied Yahoo accounts, but did not matter to my email. Once I had a big issue and had to communicate with ATT people, not yahoo......... Anyway, now yahoo has been purchased by Verizon. I got an email from ATT today discussing my email account, but it is unclear to me. It says that ATT email will be unavailable after the end of June. Then the email talks about accounts that end in @att.net It also says that some email accounts are "merged with yahoo" and some accounts have not been merged with yahoo. My Flickr account is automatically logged in when I am in my email account. I have NO idea if my account is a merged one or not. Are any of you involved in this tangle? Are you clear on what will happen with your email account?

I have no idea but will be following this since my email ends in @att.net. It was hooked up to Yahoo several years ago and I've been looking for a way to untangle them recently. So far it seems to be impossible to do.

Thanks for the heads up. My Dad has an ATT email account and DH and I are his IT guys. I will do some poking around on this before I see him later today.
I still have a (barely used) pacbell.net account. We've tried to ditch it but it's tied to our phone and internet account and for some reason we can't get rid of it!

I don't know what would happen now days but I had an email address for years at Adelphia (cable) and when the cable company was bought out by (I think) Comcast we were allowed to keep that Adelphia address. Eventually it was bought out again and our address changed but for several years after that any email with the Adelphia address was forwarded to our new address.

I have an sbcglobal.net which used to be Bell, changed to Ameritech, changed to AT&T. My email is also linked through yahoo, however I haven't gotten an email about a change. My parents have an AT&T.net address so I better check their email to make sure there isn't a problem.

I am thinking about moving her to gmail or hotmail to be done with this once and for all!

I had a rarely used sbcglobal.net email account, but when I tried to access it last week I couldn't. I couldn't even reset the password as I no longer have an AT&T account and it wouldn't recognize me. Figure that email address is now gone for good.

All I got was an email on June 1 that stated: You may have recently received an email from Yahoo! regarding an update to their terms of service. Don’t worry, this update doesn’t impact your att.net or AT&T Mail accounts at all. You can keep on using them as you always have. Just to be clear- our terms of use didn’t change, but here’s a link to our current att.net Terms of Use, in case you want to see them. Thanks for choosing us,I would love to get rid of the Yahoo component as it is just another place I have to keep up with/delete emails, etc. If it weren't for that I would never access Yahoo. From what I've been able to find I don't think it is possible.

This is what I received, and apparently my friend with a sbcglobal got a similar message:
We’d like to remind you that after June 28, 2017 you will no longer be able to access most Yahoo sites and apps with your AT&T login. However, we’ll maintain your access to Flickr, Tumblr, Fantasy Sports, Yahoo Groups and My Yahoo for a few more months. There will be no changes with your AT&T Mail account.
We recommend you move your Yahoo accounts to a new Yahoo ID to maintain access to your data in the future. We’ve outlined the easy-to-follow steps on our AT&T Support Page. ====================================
I will attempt to speak to a human on Monday (HA!) and see if I can find out what is going on. I tried to create a new yahoo account (because I have hundreds of photos on Flikr) and got a response that an account with my name exists......

I got the same message from ATT as most of the rest of you, I have "swbell.net". I called ATT support Monday and got no firm answers, I'm not sure they know what is going to happen to our Yahoo accounts. However after closely reading the email from att, I noticed:
"""""However, we’ll maintain your access to Flickr, Tumblr, Fantasy Sports, Yahoo Groups and My Yahoo for a few more months. There will be no changes with your AT&T Mail account."""" We recommend you move your Yahoo accounts to a new Yahoo ID to maintain access to your data in the future. We’ve outlined the easy-to-follow steps on our AT&T Support Page.

My mom just called and said she can't get into her yahoo email. Anyone else having trouble? At least she is local so I can go over and check it out.

I am having no trouble today......or since that announcement came out. Same for me. However between this and the two times my account has been hacked in the last six months, I am in the process of changing over to gmail. It's such a hassle to change my email with all my bills etc. Ugh.

Yikes. I have a .snet email - which was "Southern New England Telephone" and then became ATT and Yahoo. Crap - I haven't been told they are not allowing me to use it. I hope that doesn't happen.

i started with a "bell" email too back in the early 90's. even when it went through changes and landed at SBC global or ATT, my email remained good. i never used an email through ATT.net so no changes changes for me despite all of ATT's warnings.
