We are going to Best Buy tomorrow to buy our Chrome cast devices and then signing up for Sling....perhaps Hulu too. All I know is that I am tired of paying high dollar for television and I cannot find a thing to watch.

You will love it! I cut the cord over 2 years ago. Just have Netflix at the moment. Didn't renew my Amazon Prime. Get a digital antenna for local stations.

We have never had cable. And now I am find that turning off the tv is really nice!
I have a million dollar view and we sit in the house and watch the stupid tube.

We cut the cord about a month ago. I was worried but I only watch the local news and the baseball games LOL. My older kids both had Netflix accounts so I got Netflix for all of us and they cancelled their accounts. My dh bought a small aerial for our bedroom and an android box for the basement tv. We get more tv than ever in our choice!!! No fee other than Netflix but the combined account has saved one Netflix fee.
We haven't cut the cord on our home phone because dh is convinced that we still need it (we don't). However, I changed service providers and we pay 1/2 the amount that we did before.

When I called to cancel ours, the company offered it to me free for two years, so I kept it. That said, we haven't actually watched it since. We watch Netflix mainly.

I so wish we could as well. We live in the country. Our home internet is limited like a cellphone plan is limited. We would never have enough to support watching Netflix.

So, when you get rid of cable, am I correct that you can't watch shows as they are televised and you can't get sports? Those are our hangups on giving up cable.

I usually watch the local news (which we get with our aerial) and the baseball game which I get from MLB.tv. However, we now get all of the ball games on our android box in the basement. I do like the flexibility of using my computer anywhere to watch the game.

Our internet is too shakey to every go 100% that route (streaming). Most days this week my speed was well below 1MB. I think dialup would be faster sometimes.
I love my channel guide and show descriptions. DH enjoys coming home at night and watching TV and we do watch more in the winter. I can't begin to think about not having my DVR from Dish either! LOL
We do have an outdoor terrestrial antenna. We never got rid of it. I do like to watch thing that are on the sub channels with that, but it can be flakey sometimes - just due to the distance from the broadcast point.
I don't have any plans to ever cut my 'cable'.

My DH ditched Dish about a month ago. All he ever watched was noon news to get the weather and 60 Minutes on Sunday evening. Most of my time is spent in Florida without TV and when I'd be home I never turned it on. I do miss having Weather Channel though, and HGTV.

We cut the cord last week. DH decided to be content with the sports available on local channels via digital antenna, and the only stuff we watch on TV any more is on the premium channels like HBO and Starz, which I get through Amazon only when we want them. Oh, and I got a PBS subscription through Amazon, too, which is awesome for all the Masterpiece stuff. I haven't seen anything on network TV worth watching in a long time, so why would I keep paying for it?
We have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon (comes with Prime membership we'd have anyway) and these little add-on subscriptions as needed. It's more than enough.

You'll be glad you did it! We have Netflix, Hulu, and Sling. Plenty of TV and a fraction of what we were paying.

I think about this a lot but I can't ever bring myself to act on it because once I cancel tv service my internet price jacks up sky high since I'm no longer bundling services. To get something similar to what I have in my tv package now I would likely do the following:
Internet: $105 Netflix 9.99 Sling TV (Because you can watch current seasons on this right?) Around $40 or so for the channels I would choose it looks like. Though it's really hard to tell without signing up.
So with that I would save about $29/month from what I pay now. Not that big of a savings for the hassle unless I'm missing something.

I didn't love sling. It crashed a lot for me. I get my TV from Netflix and Hulu.

If it were up to me I would go with an Amazon fire stick instead of a chrome cast. Our old chrome cast constantly crashed and I didn't like needing a device to stream from. I still use a chrome cast daily at work to display projected info on a tv and it bugs the crap out of me, it crashes constantly.

We have basic channels and our android box. I can watch anything I want even from other countries like the U.K. It's free too. No subscription fee. Just purchase the box and go.

I've heard about Android boxes, using the Kodi app and that sort of thing but it kinda rubs me the wrong way. If you aren't paying for the content you are watching then it's pirated material. I'm not hardcore anti-piracy by any means but for some reason this pushes past the limit I am comfortable with. Unless the peas know something I don't?

We didn't have a good experience with Sling. Lots of buffering and no DVR. PlayStation Vue on the other hand has been great!

I was supposed to call and turn off the direct tv today, actually was supposed to do it the past couple days too.. Ive had this crazy headache for the past 2 weeks, off and on. and ugh, I just haven't wanted to have to talk to them and deal with them throwing free showtime or whatever at me as they try to convince me to stay---we've had directv for nearly 15yrs

My limited research shows that they are not to sell the boxes preloaded and anti piracy laws are being looked at. Currently it isn't illegal because you aren't downloading the content, only streaming it. Ethically, since not currently illegal, it is still stealing. The result (for me) is that by working around the system you (general you) are still screwing the people who should be getting paid for the content. I hope that the laws catch up with technology.

Our whole system is flawed. Cable and satellite are way overpriced and expensive. TV providers are making a killing. It is not illegal here to stream. If it were, they couldn't sell them anywhere. They are sold everywhere here. Until the law passes, not illegal. Ethically, maybe so, but not illegal. Shrugs
