I've been binge watching several shows over the past week and there are some things in shows that drive me nuts! Chicago Fire... no one ever turns a hose on the fire. in the Season 5 finale, almost all the firefighters are stuck in a burning building, and the rest of the team is standing outside, almost crying... doing nothing. No hoses! Isn't the whole point of firefighters to put out the fire using water? Maybe I'm missing something? Turn on the damn hoses!!
Chicago Med... they shocked a flat line more than once. Ugh. You can't restart a heart with a defibrillator that has flat lined. Right? I'm not a medical professional but I remember reading that you need some electrical activity in the heart in order to use electricity to bring it back to a regular rhythm.
The Night Shift... I didn't make it through three episodes. Opening a chest in the ER, a heart transplant without checking if the blood type matches (among other mistakes, I'm sure), a food truck on the balcony for the doctors???, doctors riding along with paramedics regularly. So many things wrong with this one.
Those are a few of my grievances, lol. First world problem, for sure!

CPR. They show everybody being saved by it In some of the cases CPR keeps the body alive until you get it to the hospital where they declare it dead. Costing the family thousands more than it they had just called the morgue.

I'm thankfully ignorant of all the mistakes in shows.. I just don't 'see' them.. Every once and awhile I might see something... but yes if I did start focusing on that it would drive me nuts.
There is one thing that I notice on Everyone Loves Raymond (cause I watch it all the time.. especially going to bed).. Raymond's parents have a picture in their house (I think by the door that goes to the family room.. or is it on the way outside).. but it is a picture of flowers (Daisies) in a old fashion pot. Well my mom has the SAME picture but she made it herself.. it was some kind of craft thing she was into in the 70s. You carved the picture into a piece of flat wood and then paint it (like toll painting I think it was called).. so every time I see that picture I wonder where they got it? Goodwill? Flea Market? It's not my mom's as it is hanging in my laundry room.

Stay at home mom making a full breakfast and the family only grabbing a piece of toast or a glass of juice in their way out.

I have a hard time watching movies or shows like Quantico or The Blacklist. I mean really, how long does it take to kill someone if you had these jobs IRL? You don't go into some long winded revenge speech right before the good guy is about to be shot. Without.fail. the other good guys find the location and save the day. I have to watch myself from letting the snark out when my family watches Gotham. It is probably the best example of this type of thing. Or they decide to kill them in all these odd, torturous ways. There's a couple of times I've yelled at the TV, just use a gun already!

Medical shows are the worst. The only one I've ever been able to watch was ER, at least they tried for some realism.
My favourite (sarcasm) is that they can't simply have some really good nurses. If there's a good nurse character, then of course she has to become a doctor (because only doctors do anything significant in medical shows) but does she go away and get her degree for the next 6 years? no...of course not she does that "accelerated medical degree" that takes only a few months, at the same time that she still works in the same hospital and hey presto a few episodes later she's a fully qualified MD. Amazing.
I also hate it when during an arrest scenario the doctors and nurses yell at patients "stay with me" or "don't you die on me" etc. Total BS. In an arrest everyone is so busy doing their job and the patient is unconscious - so we don't yell encouragement or threats at them. And yes OP you are right - we don't shock asystole.
Those CSI shows used to bug me as well, there the women are at a crime scene in tank tops, and high heels with their long flowing hair. In real life they'd be in head to toe coveralls and booties. I get that wouldn't make an interesting show and it would be hard to tell the characters apart, but it was ridiculous the way they looked like they'd just left a night club. They could have at least tried for a little more realism. And let's not forget the DNA results that come back in less than an hour...
Oh and all the serial killers who are female. Around 90% of all serial killers in real life are male but in TV shows it's about 50/50. There are very few 'true' serial killers who are female, yet in all those shows they act as if it's really common and no-one is ever surprised.

Stay at home mom making a full breakfast and the family only grabbing a piece of toast or a glass of juice in their way out. Funny, and they will have a serving plate stacked with waffles or pancakes and a pitcher with orange juice ON A WEEK DAY MORNING. We only go all out with that usually on a Sunday and then I just put the food on the kid's plate and pour them milk straight out of the jug in the fridge.

Costing the family thousands more than it they had just called the morgue. believe it or not I know two people who were saved by CPR! Both suffered a total heart block and one was down for over an hour. So glad people did CPR.

Both suffered a total heart block No one does CPR for "heart block". Heart block is still a rhythm and people with a cardiac rhythm & output don't need CPR. The common treatment for heart block is a pacemaker, which is different to CPR.

Timing bothers me. When someone is almost instantly transported to another city. Even if you are POTUS, it takes a certain amount of time to get from one place to another.
It also irritates me on family dramas and Sitcoms that everyone including the family enter their house through the front door. IRL don't most of us come into our house through the garage into the kitchen.
Maybe other people do this IRL, but I never wear my jewelry at home except my wedding rings. Yet on TV, these women have on nice clothes, jewelry, and often go to bed with their makeup on. I know they need to look nice, but scarves and bangle bracelets at home? I've been watching Parenthood on Netflix - on the 3rd season - and Camille always has on all those accessories while she drying the dishes. Most of the time she is at home and volunteers at a soup kitchen. Would you really put on all those accessories every day?

It's not my mom's as it is hanging in my laundry room. There are people who make their living from finding, storing, renting, buying, etc. props and they get them anywhere they can find them. Many props are kept in prop warehouses and frequently reused, so you may someday see that same picture show up in another movie or TV show. I sold a few vintage unopened grocery items on ebay once and the person who purchased them purchased them as props for a store in a play. Save

My biggest vent has always been consistency issues, and now, that shows are streaming online or on netflix and you can watch episodes from multiple seasons all at one time, those issues make me even more crazy.
Because while I may have noticed some things during the original runs, I now see even more things when there's not a week or even months between episodes.

Cpr on a drowning victim who them spits up all the water, gasps, and then gets up.
CPR , if done correctly, is not going to have the person back on their feet a couple of minutes later.

The common treatment for heart block is a pacemaker, which is different to CPR. In both cases I am aware of the individual had a third degree block, and the heart stopped beating which is a potential result of heart block. Since each person was in public and collapsed, there weren't exactly cardiologists with pacemakers at the ready to be installed at that moment. So the emergency response was CPR done by a well trained bystander until the EMT arrived and a pacemaker was installed in hospital.

Most people in my neighborhood use the front door of their house. But the houses in my neighborhood were built in the early 1900s and almost all have detached garages.

We're watching Daredevil and repeatedly it goes from daytime to nighttime in minutes. Other shows do this too. It's maddening.

IRL don't most of us come into our house through the garage into the 90% of the people I know enter through the front door. We can't park in our garage due to it being full of stuff (can barely walk in there either...) so we use the front door 100% of the time. Also, the light switch for the garage is inside the house so when the light that goes on when you open the garage door turns off after a minute, it's dark! I figured this out when my DS was 2 and locked me out there I hate how TV shows will have everyone in the kitchen, and the guest just KNOWS to come in the back door... I've never had a guest come knock on my sliding door, that would be really odd.

Whenever there is a kitchen/dinner scene, the person is always stirring a pot of pasta sauce.

When what is happening is unrealistic to the location. Like they are supposed to be in the northern part of the country in November and the trees have green leaves.

When the walkers make noise constantly, except when the director want them to sneak up on someone (that one may be walking dead specific)

Philip & Elizabeth (The Americans) have the same crewel embroidery flowers in a vase that I made in the early 70s and hung in my parents house until they sold it a couple of years ago. It now hangs in our guest room and I get a kick everytime I see it on their wall in the show. My sister has a couple of friends with a prop business and they would collect things everywhere they went. They were always on the hunt for decorative ashtrays, wall art, knick knacks, etc. The show that drove me nuts and I just couldn't watch was 24. The whole premise was destroyed for me in the first few episodes and I gave up. If it had truly been based on "real time" we would have an entire episode with Jack Bauer driving from point A to B (the office, his house, where his daughter was taken, etc.). No way, even in the middle of the night, were the roads and distances he was traveling doable in their magic time frame. SaveSave

I hate it when the writers use the characters names too often. My husband and I can go for weeks without using each others first name. But in some shows they throw the character name in on every sentence.

I hate how often people on tv do not say goodbye when ending a phone call. They just hang up. Business, personal, it always ends with bang, a dial tone.

It always annoys me that the CSI labs are so dark, how can they even see what they are doing?

I would assume it would be the same for other shows as a well.

dizzycheermom the dark labs and offices drive me nuts, too! I was watching CSI and they were in a house, in the daytime with all the blinds closed and the lights off, using flashlights. Um, TURN THE DAMN LIGHTS ON!
