I'm thankfully ignorant of all the mistakes in shows.. I just don't 'see' them.. Every once and awhile I might see something... but yes if I did start focusing on that it would drive me nuts. There is one thing that I notice on Everyone Loves Raymond (cause I watch it all the time.. especially going to bed).. Raymond's parents have a picture in their house (I think by the door that goes to the family room.. or is it on the way outside).. but it is a picture of flowers (Daisies) in a old fashion pot. Well my mom has the SAME picture but she made it herself.. it was some kind of craft thing she was into in the 70s. You carved the picture into a piece of flat wood and then paint it (like toll painting I think it was called).. so every time I see that picture I wonder where they got it? Goodwill? Flea Market? It's not my mom's as it is hanging in my laundry room. The thing that gets me about Everyone Loves Raymond...
Ray and Debra live across the street from Ray's parents. Yet they are frequently shown coming to the back door. Why in the world would they go all the way around the house to go to the back door when the front door is so much closer?

Maybe other people do this IRL, but I never wear my jewelry at home except my wedding rings. Yet on TV, these women have on nice clothes, jewelry, and often go to bed with their makeup on. I know they need to look nice, but scarves and bangle bracelets at home? I've been watching Parenthood on Netflix - on the 3rd season - and Camille always has on all those accessories while she drying the dishes. Most of the time she is at home and volunteers at a soup kitchen. Would you really put on all those accessories every day? I love accesories! i usually wear bracelets and a scarf or necklace everyday except if I am in my work uniform. I also wear nice clothes at home, too. When would I wear them otherwise? What did I buy them for?I get this and that's why I dress up a bit more for doctor appointments, my book club, and errands than I see other people doing. I just find jewelry and scarves a nuisance at home. Sometimes I see people with several bracelets on their wrists doing crafting videos and I think to myself - I'd have paint all over those bracelets

My pet peeve is probably more for movies than tv shows, but it bugs the crap out of me when someone shoots at someone with a machine gun but misses them and not one shot hits them. But someone else can kill seven people, all pointing guns at him with a pistol without anyone else getting a shot off.
Drives me nuts.

We use our front door all of the time, and I know a lot of other people who are the same way. Although I do know some people who use only their side or back door.
I've only known a few people who actually used their garage doors most of the time.

Greys Anatomy... love the show, but there is no universe where doctors give meds, transport patients, go to MRI/CT scans, or really spend more than 5 minutes at a patients bedside (ok that one is a slight exaggeration but it feels true lol).

This. Also, when my RN DD got her first job at a big hospital, I asked her if the young drs were hot & heavy in the on call room or storage room. She rolled her eyes at me.

Reading through the posts reminded me of many of my peeves.
Medical shows or shows that show medical situations: too many peeves to remember. The CPR for a flatline heart is one. Doctors doing all kinds of roles that belong to different specialties is another (Grey's is terrible for this). Hospital visitors being kicked out at the end of visiting hours (in the past this happened, but I don't know the last time I saw it or experienced it, at least not in the US and not when you are family; and as a nurse I would never tell family to leave unless they were being disruptive or hurting the patient in some way). There are so many others.
People never actually finish the food on their plate.
People not saying goodbye before hanging up the phone (this has bothered me for decades).
Families where the genetics are very, very unlikely to impossible. The Americans, for example. Both Phillip and Elizabeth have blue eyes. Both the kids have brown eyes. This is exceedingly unlikely and it bothers me every single episode. If the producers/directors have to have these cast members, why can't they just use colored contacts? Come on! I would say this is something that you see in virtually every show on tv. So annoying!
There are many others too.

In the first few seasons of Homeland Brody's wife kept her Kitchen Aid on a really high shelf. I always wondered how she got it down without killing herself.
Shows in familiar cities where they make a right turn from one street to another part of town on the next.

I wish I was on a tv show or movie, because parking in the space right in front would be easy. There is always a perfectly fitting parking space. Also, no matter how poor I was I would have a new car, a nice wardrobe, a great apartment or house and I'd be able to go out to dinner at nice restaurants despite being broke.
In medical shows when a patient is THAT ill, a face full of makeup always cracks me up. Plus, they have energy and they look healthy. Finally, a doctor friend of mine ruined House for me. She said that 99% of the diseases he diagnosed could be diagnosed w/a simple lab. Rats.

In watching Better Call Saul this week, I noticed a Macy's in the mall scene, set in approx 2003. It should have been Foley's. I'm probably the only person in America that noticed, but it still bugs me.

The show that drove me nuts and I just couldn't watch was 24. The whole premise was destroyed for me in the first few episodes and I gave up. If it had truly been based on "real time" we would have an entire episode with Jack Bauer driving from point A to B (the office, his house, where his daughter was taken, etc.). No way, even in the middle of the night, were the roads and distances he was traveling doable in their magic time frame. Hahahaha! I remember one episode they were out in the desert somewhere, like Palmdale or somewhere like that, and in less than 15 minutes, he was back downtown at CTU. I don't think you could get there in that time frame on a magic carpet, much less on the freeway. LOL!

On the Netflix show Bloodlines, one of the characters takes a job in NYC. The show itself was filmed entirely in South Florida. So it cracked me up when they tried to pull off downtown Miami as NYC with snow and everything. There was a building or two that was just too recognizable to me and too, well, "tropical" for lack of better word to ever be in New York.
True story, right around the time they were filming, I was at a podunk gas station in the middle of the state. And there parked on a flatbed was a NYC Taxi Cab, with a "real" looking New York plate and everything. I thought, how the heck did that get here? Once the second season premiered, I put two and two together and figured out they probably used it as a prop for the show. Orlando is kind of a hub, particularly around Disney/Universal for a lot of studio props and things like that, so my theory was they were transporting it from Miami back to Orlando (and this road would have been a good route for that.)

People go out to eat and never finish their food (and especially not if they have a milkshake). Eating out is expensive and I don't do it that often, so I eat my food.

My current pet peeve is in Queen of The South series. They enter a tunnel in Dallas and emerge in Mexico. Did I miss something? Are the cartels that good? ? That's a heck of a long tunnel to traverse on foot!

My husband and I call that "Doris Day parking"--whiz right up and park directly in front of the building (in the big city even!) My pet peeve is that every criminal investigation apparently requires an information gathering trip to a strip club.

A lot of the medical shows I can't watch anymore. Someone is always diagnosed in less than 10min.. They can't even draw an IV that fast! LOL! oh and see the Dr super fast not just the nurse. That's funny about the Chicago Fire one LOL! There was one of those that I watched a while back but I can't remember the name but it was NEVER about the fire. It was all the drama lol!
A few of the HGTV shows, everything they redo is modern and white. lol! And sitcoms their kitchens are perfectly clean and set up and everything! Like they don't spend time in there houses just to do the part.

I roll my eyes when all courtroom scenes include a lot of spectators sitting in the gallery.
In real life people will only show up in large numbers to watch high profile murder cases or other cases which receive a lot of publicity. In most courtroom proceedings there are very few, if any spectators.
However, when you watch many legal shows, there are always lots of spectators sitting in the gallery no matter what is going on in the courtroom.

It's when the PARENTS are blue eyed, which means they have two copies of the recessive blue eyes gene, it is very very unlikely that they will have brown eyed (i.e. dominant gene) children. I have never seen this happen in real life, and you probably haven't either. Actually I do know of one case. My dad's parents both had blue eyes. So did my dad and his siblings. Except for one brother, who had brown eyes. He looked nothing like his siblings or his mother or father. But I'm pretty sure he was not my grandfather's biological son. Pretty damn sure. My grandmother had a "friend," and my grandfather was very jealous about their relationship. I suspect he had good reason!

They now know there are multiple genes that contribute to and influence shades of eye colour - not just the one. If you Google it you'll find many sources of information:

The "magic parking spot" also bothers me. Wish I had that knack! And how quickly people can drive across town- like in LA or NYC- when in reality it could take hours to travel 30 miles.
I love Grey's, but those surgeons are always working in specialties that aren't their own. And when was the last time a nurse had a recurring role? I think it was season 2.

If you Google it you'll find many sources of information: Thanks for that, I knew that my info wasn't quite correct. I was taught it was impossible, but now we now it IS possible, but still very unlikely I think. I have looked and cannot find any figures for how often this happens. It will only happen when the parents have the right combinations of alleles on the chromsomes. Most combinations will still lead to blue eyes. And the more heterogeneous each parent's genetic pool is, the less likely those alleles for dark eyes will be there. In the case of my family, on my dad's side we appear to be very heterogeneous. Other than the aforementioned uncle, pretty much everyone has blonde to mid brown hair and light eyes, through multiple generations. On my mother's side there's a bit more of a mix, as my grandma had black hair and blue eyes (such a pretty combination), and my grandad had very dark brown hair and hazel eyes, which is also my mom's coloring. We have some Celtic (Irish and Scottish) and possibly Romany gypsy in there that give those darker hair and eyes. My mom was disappointed that all 3 of her kids had blue eyes and light brown hair. Anyhoo, with regards to The Americans, Phillip and Elizabeth both have very obviously blue eyes and Paige's eyes are SO dark brown. It just looks wrong. What can I say?

but now we now it IS possible, but still very unlikely Not that unlikely. Look at the Royals, Kate has green eyes, William has blue and their son George has brown. I suspect most people could tell you the same story about people they know in their lives. One of my school friends has a family photo where everyone has really bright blue eyes except the youngest son. I've had my genetic testing done and based on my genes my predicted eye colour should be "light grey blue" but they are a very definite green. They don't understand how the various genes/alleles interact to determine how the colour is expressed yet. That's why there is no one shade of any colour, blue can range from pale grey to dark violet. So even if your 'main' gene for eye colour is blue there could be several other alleles in different places that determine what shade of blue you end up with - or if your expressed colour ends up being green or brown instead.

It bugs me that the main character rarely has a spouse.
Like their job is so important, that they can not possibly have a good home life.

Another one that bugs me is that the cheerleaders at high school football and basketball games are always so bad. They are rarely in sync and they are always doing very simple cheers w/ no stunts. Nowadays most cheerleading squads spend as much time practicing as the basketball or football team and they have their own competitions. It looks very fake to me when you see the high school football team playing the big game against their biggest rivals and the cheerleaders just kind of clap and wave their arms and do random jumps about as well as I could do and I'm 57 and never made the cheerleading squad.
I love the movie The Blindside, but I roll my eyes every time I see the scene where Sandra Bullock, the high powered decorator, is apparently also the volunteer cheerleading coach at a high school obsessed with sports. Her advice to the high school cheerleaders is to "remember to point your toes." In real life, the cheerleaders at that school had probably been cheering since they were four years' old and had long ago mastered the art of toe pointing.
