On June 6th I was walking up my front porch steps my right leg just gave away. I felt like someone kicked my lower leg. I completely ruptured my Achilles tendon. When I was falling I tried to catch myself and landed on my right wrist. Thankfully I only sprained my wrist. On June 15th I had surgery to reattach the Achilles tendon. When I was in the ER there was an orthopedic doctor there and he fit me into his office schedule for the next day. I lucked out. He is an amazing doctor. He is taking every precaution possible because of my Rheumatoid arthritis. So I am seeing him weekly for wound care. I am non weightbearing for 6 weeks. In the meantime I will be doing a lot of reading and knitting. I have been out a few times but it is so tiring, granted I only had surgery a week ago. This isn't how I planned to spend my summer. At least I have a cool looking cast!  |

That is indeed a cool cast! Rupturing your Achilles' tendon sounds absolutely horrifying, and really painful. I hope you heal quickly. Mind you, 6 weeks of enforced reading and knitting time sounds quite enticing at the moment - although I'm not really up for the pain part of it.  |

That's up there with being pretty darn awful! I hope the tendon heals quickly and the wrist doesn't give you any extra grief. I hope you have something good to watch and that your knitting is coming along well!

Oh no, that is a terrible way to start your summer. Rupturing your achilles is a really bad injury so please take care.

Wow, that's an awful injury! Did they say how they think you did it? It seems quite a severe injury to have happened just when walking up the steps. I hope it heals quickly for you so you can enjoy some of your summer at least. In the meantime, enjoy the reading and knitting!

I had a pump bump on that heel (my old ra doc told me that it was a ra nodule) for 10 years. The tendon had wrapped around it causing it to weaken. So that along with long-term prednisone use was most likely the cause. |
