I have a whole almost 6 pound chicken I want to cook in my pressure cooker. I haven't done this before. I found a recipe I like but it is for a 2 1/2 pound chicken and it says to cook it for 25 minutes with 15 minutes natural pressure release. How long should I cook my 6 pound chicken? In other recipes I know you double (or triple whatever the case my be) your cooking time but I didn't know if it works that way with pressure cooking or not.
ETA: How long will it take to come to pressure?
Thanks!

Wow, ok. Well, I actually DID google before I asked. What I found didn't have the answer and I didn't have the time to research more so I thought I would ask here because I knew there were those who have a lot of experience with pressure cooking. But, thanks for your answer.

I'll wait for more expert input, but my understanding with the IP is that you don't need to double or triple the time--it's the same amount. It will take a bit longer to come to pressure, but once it does, the 25 min is the same for 1lb or 6lbs or whatever. Then 15 min letting it come down from pressure on its own.
I've done plenty of cooking in my IP but I've never cooked a whole chicken, mainly because I don't want to clean a chicken carcass.

I agree, same time no matter the size. Mine was a 4.5 lbs chicken, cooked for the 25 minutes. I have cooked a whole chicken and it turns out very moist!

Yes, 25 minutes will be fine!
How long it takes to come to pressure depends on how much liquid, how cold the chicken, etc. It will probably be around 15 minutes.
(sorry, since the kids are out of school, I'm not on here as much during the day)
