"President Trump was at his desk in the Oval Office and on the phone with the new prime minister of Ireland on Tuesday when a journalist for an Irish news organization caught his eye.... Then, interrupting his conversation with Mr. Varadkar, Mr. Trump pointed at the journalist, Caitriona Perry, and gestured for her to come to him. “And where are you from?” he said. “Go ahead. Come here, come here. Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press.” After she introduced herself, Mr. Trump told Mr. Varadkar, “She has a nice smile on her face so I bet she treats you well.”... Kris Macomber, an assistant professor of sociology at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., said in an email that Mr. Trump’s comments reflect “textbook paternalistic sexism,” which is often couched in a “ ‘playful’ tone, as if she should feel flattered.”" www.nytimes.com/2017/06/28/us/trump-flirt-irish-reporter.html

I don't get it. There was an Irish reporter in the Oval Office while he was on the phone with the Irish PM?
Admittedly I have not yet clicked the link!
ETA okay, I saw it. He is just so weird and socially awkward. gahhhhh

That was painfully awkward to watch. What a slimeball. It's incredibly unprofessional to single out an attractive reporter and say she's beautiful press, and has a beautiful smile. And what the hell does he mean by "I bet she treats you well."

I can't say, "stop. Just fucking stop" anymore. Because he truly is a gift that keeps on giving. 🤢
May be I can do my, "may be wishing the opposite will work" song and dance. You know what dude, go ahead and tell them how beautiful they are and take it as far as you want. May be then we can get you out.

And what the hell does he mean by "I bet she treats you well Even more telling, he obviously doesn't realise that Leo Varadkar, the Irish Prime Minister is openly gay so unlike Trump he's probably not going to act like a sexist slimeball every time a pretty female walks into the room. Plus the double entendre of "treat you well" REALLY doesn't apply in this case. He has has so little awareness about the world around him...he thinks he's always in that men's locker room and that sort of "nudge nudge wink wink" talk about women will be shared by whatever man he is talking to.

That's just awful. It makes me so angry that he is allowed to use his position of authority and say things like that about women, and yet some Joe-no-name would be fired from a mid-manager position at Denny's if he spoke to a woman like that.

I'm glad she tweeted this, otherwise we all would have missed it. It was a risky move, now she could get on his bad side making a name for herself.

The really sad thing is that there are a lot of women, some post on this board, who would say the same thing. It's not the "you/she has a nice smile" that's the problem. I'm pretty sure I may have complimented someone's smile once in my life. I've at least said something about babies smiles. It's the way in which it was done. It's where it was done. He stopped a phone call in front of press to call out an international reporter about her appearance. In front of other press/ her peers. It was a creepy thing to do. He was talking to someone, someone reasonably important, and like the dog from'Up' he got distracted. And he not only showed his distraction, but he made a spectacle of it.

he turns my stomach on a DAILY basis. It's amazing!
eta: how is it that we still do NOT have some sort of a basic quiz or intelligence test that someone has to take before being elected to this position? there is NO way this man knows ANYTHING about governing or diplomacy, and he's like the creepy uncle you always try to keep away from at family parties-- yet he ran, and he won... it truly does boggle my mind.

I think what appalls me the most is that there are still people who will defend him to the death. As a lifelong democrat I can look back and reflect on republican presidents who I may not have agreed with but they were not disgusting people. How do people who go all out to show their support for this monster sleep at night?

How do people who go all out to show their support for this monster sleep at night? I've been reading a few threads on FB to try and get some perspective. And they LOVE it. They LOVE Trump. They think he's "telling it like it is" and absolutely believe that the rest of us are whiny SJWs. They think they are pushing back against political correctness. I usually try not to generalise but after reading some comments I've realised there is a huge "they" out there that I just cannot understand.

He's a fucking pig. The president of the USA is a fucking pig. Nah, that's a disservice to pigs. If you're a vegetarian, they're smart animals. If you're a carnivore, they give us bacon which is like God's special candy. Trump seems neither smart and well, he ain't bacon. More like lard maybe?

Well, the unimaginable happened today. A friend of mine who has been the biggest trump supporter I know said "He's an embarrassment". I know I'm proud of her for finally realizing and acknowledging that fact.

I know I'm proud of her for finally realizing and acknowledging that fact. Wow!?!?!? What was finally a bridge too far for her? Cuz I know it wasn't pussy grabbing, or making fun of a disabled reporter, or having the Secret Service secure two full-time residences for 5 months, or having a team made up of billionaires, or having a team made up of foreign agents, or not divesting of his holdings to ensure his actions are in line w/the needs of the country vs. the profits of the family, or.......

I know I'm proud of her for finally realizing and acknowledging that fact. What will be more important is if he's enough of an embarrassment for his supporters to NOT vote for him again. Because I think some of them still will. Even after all the embarrassing shit. And that is horrible.

I was reading comments on an online article last night and a man said that he was also embarrassed and thinks his vote for Trump was a mistake. He thought that Trump would change after becoming President but now sees that he hasn't.

why anyone thought a 70 year old man would change is really beyond me... Rachel Maddow's show tonight started out by discussing how Trump has no stake in the office of the Presidency, or in the standing of America on the world stage... that's why he does such vulgar, crass things (as a distraction tactic, but that's not my point, here...) Just the fact that he has NO social graces or self-awareness whatsoever, never has, and never will-- and electing him President wouldn't, and hasn't, changed that-- and never WOULD have changed that.
