Also, we would go to the park every day just about. In late fall there would be rotting grass chunks that dogs or whatever other animals had peed on and they would eat that. Then they would both get sick. I gave them chicken at home (and they got good chicken not garbage either) and they would still eat that gunk at the park. These were supposed to be smart dogs. I think they missed the memo or something.

Your dog may not associate the sounds she hears inside the house with the people she sees outside. Also, dogs, being predators, have lots of rods ( rather than cones) in their eyes. This gives them great Vision when it comes to detecting movement, but naked it difficult to recognize people by sight alone. So if your dog only saw the painter, but did not hear or smell him, she may not have recognized him. And if she did recognize him, she may not connect him to the sounds she is hearing

My dog only growls when she wants to play with DH. Someone could literally break into to our house and Rob us blind and my dog would sit there tail wagging and watch the whole thing. She is not protective at all.
