Fiona crossed the rainbow bridge this morning

She's beat death twice in the last 3 months, but over the last few days, she's lost all the joy in her life so we knew it was time to say goodbye. Her tumors were just too big and they were growing more every day. 

Watching Matthew's heart break is the hardest thing I've ever done as a mom. Last night he read her a story, we pet her and snuggled with her, and hugged her, and gave her a steak dinner. She tucked the kids in like she always did and then this morning she came in our room to sleep at the foot of our bed. I want so badly to call DH at the vet right now to call the whole thing off but I know it would be selfish. She's only 6 and we're just not ready to lose her.

Goodbye my sweet Fiona. You were the best dog in the whole world. 

Update: She's gone. She went in about 3 seconds, which the vet tells us means she was really sick. DH took her bed so she could lie in it instead of on the cold floor. He held her and she went peacefully. The vet was crying too. I kept hoping he'd walk back in with her but I feel comforted knowing the time was right.
